Same pool \u2013 same champion \u2013 only one year later. At the European Championships in Rome, David Popovici set a new standard with the fastest 100-meter freestyle performance of all time. The new world record was set just one year after his phenomenal performance at the Junior European Championships in 2021, in the exact same pool.<\/p>\n

Using race analysis, the present case report aims to find differences between the Rome 2021 Junior European Championships, the Budapest 2022 World Championships, and the Rome 2022 European Championships<\/a>\u00a0and assess contributing factors to the\u00a0new world record<\/a>\u00a0in one of the most-decorated swimming discipline.<\/p>\n

My view on the world-record book changed a bit the other day. No, I still don\u2019t see a handful of global standards going anywhere in the immediate future. That record in the women\u2019s 200-meter butterfly? Nope. Don\u2019t see 2:01.81 disappearing. That mark in the men\u2019s 800 freestyle? Nah. That 7:32.12 will hang around for a while.<\/p>\n

But toward another event, my mindset has shifted. It took exactly 1:42.97 for the change to occur. That\u2019s the amount of time it took\u00a0David Popovici<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0win the 200 freestyle at the European Championships in Rome<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Molly graduated from Freehold Township High School in 2017 with an International Baccalaureate Diploma and moved to Florida to attend Nova Southeastern University. Molly is a member of the NSU Sharks Swim Team, a Division II program located in the Sunshine State Conference. She is currently a dual admission sophomore and plans to graduate with a marketing major and communications minor in 2021, then an MBA in 2022.
