McKeever is currently under investigation by the university after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/report-allegations-of-verbal-abuse-bullying-levied-at-cal-coach-teri-mckeever\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports accused the coach of verbal abuse and bullying toward her swimmers<\/a>. The story broke in late May, and she was placed on leave from the program a day later.<\/p>\n<p>Durden confirmed to\u00a0<em>Swimming World<\/em> in July that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cal-womens-and-mens-teams-training-together-right-now-long-term-plans-unclear\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Cal teams were training together during the summer<\/a>, with women&#8217;s assistant coach\u00a0<strong>Jesse Moore<\/strong>, newly-hired men&#8217;s assistant\u00a0<strong>Matt Bowe<\/strong> and former Auburn coach\u00a0<strong>David Marsh<\/strong> all assisting. Now, that arrangement will continue for at least the time being with McKeever&#8217;s status in flux.<\/p>\n<p>The university made it official in a statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our men and women have been working together this summer and it has allowed my mind to think about all of the possibilities as we charge towards Paris 2024,&#8221; Durden said <a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/news\/2022\/8\/23\/mens-swimming-diving-durden-named-acting-director-of-swimming-diving.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a university release<\/a>. &#8220;To have David Marsh and his knowledge on the deck with us is such a positive for both our men and women, and working with Matt and Jesse over these last several weeks has helped me put a framework around this concept moving forward.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Durden has been one of the most successful college swim coaches in the country since taking over the Golden Bears&#8217; men&#8217;s program in advance of the 2007-2008 season. His teams have won five national titles during that stretch, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-mens-championships-cal-clinches-national-title-behind-team-chemistry-led-by-fifth-year-standouts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">most recently last March in Atlanta<\/a>. Cal&#8217;s men have finished first or second at the last 12 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/sports\/swimming-men\/d1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NCAA Men&#8217;s Championships<\/a>, a run going back to Durden&#8217;s third year as head coach.<\/p>\n<p>Bowe was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/matt-bowe-joins-california-mens-swimming-and-diving-staff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hired this summer<\/a> after a successful run as an assistant at Ohio State. Moore, the former head coach at Dartmouth, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/jesse-moore-hired-by-cal-as-womens-swimming-assistant-coach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was hired in April<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Marsh joined as a volunteer assistant on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/interim-assistant-coach-david-marsh-makes-impact-on-cal-mens-championship-run\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an interim basis in February 2022<\/a> while <strong>Chase Kreitler<\/strong> was on paternity leave. (Kreitler has since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pitt-is-prepared-to-take-training-to-next-level-with-new-head-coach-chase-kreitler\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">taken the head-coaching job at Pitt<\/a>.) The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/hall-of-fame-bound-david-marsh-to-be-honored-for-extraordinary-coaching-career\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Swimming Hall of Famer<\/a> won 12 NCAA titles (seven men&#8217;s, five women&#8217;s) and 17 SEC titles (13 men&#8217;s, four women&#8217;s) at Auburn.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thoroughly enjoyed working with Dave and the Golden Bears last season, and I&#8217;m honored and excited to assist in the process of helping develop world class people and world class swimmers,&#8221; Marsh said in the press release. &#8220;With Coach Durden&#8217;s vision, I&#8217;m 100% sure the men and women of Berkeley have a fantastic future.
