Jason Momoa to Produce Feature Biopic on Duke Kahanamoku<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hollywood star Jason Momoa<\/strong> has already delved deeply into the story of fellow Hawaiian Duke Kahanamoku<\/strong> for a documentary. Now, he\u2019s ready to take it to the big screen.<\/p>\n

The star of \u201cAquaman\u201d and producer Peter Safran<\/strong> are teaming up on a feature film about the life of the International Swimming Hall of Famer and surfing pioneer.<\/p>\n

IMDB announced the news Thursday<\/a>. Safran produced both \u201cAquaman\u201d and the forthcoming sequel, \u201cAquaman and the Lost Kingdom,\u201d due out in 2023.<\/p>\n

Momoa has grown comfortable with the subject matter: He narrated an American Master\u2019s documentary on PBS earlier this year<\/a> about Kahanamoku. That pice, \u201cWaterman \u2014 Duke: Ambassador of Aloha,\u201d premiered it May. It told the story of Kahanamoku\u2019s role as an innovator in the modern sport of surfing and his success as a swimmer<\/a>, winning five Olympic medals across three editions of the Games, in 1912, 1920 and 1924. He also served as an alternate for the men\u2019s water polo team at the 1932 Games.<\/p>\n

Momoa turned 43 years old this month. He\u2019s a year older than his fellow native of Honolulu, born in 1890, was at his final Olympics in Los Angeles in 1932.<\/p>\n

Also attached to the feature project are producers Susan Miller Carlson<\/strong> and Eric Carlson<\/strong> of the Carlson Company. Chris Kekaniokalani (K.T.)
