A plethora of United States Masters Swimming (USMS) records fell during the week at the masters summer nationals.<\/p>\n

It started from the very first day as Willard Lamb<\/strong> broke six records for the 100-104 age bracket<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Danielle Herrmann<\/strong> set several records as well. After competing at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, she retired from the sport, moved halfway across the country to start working as a pediatric pharmacist, and met her husband, Garen. When he suggested she start swimming again, she immediately dismissed the idea.<\/p>\n

But she eventually decided in 2013 to try a Masters program after a year and a half out of the water.<\/p>\n

\u201cMet some really awesome coaches, met some really awesome Masters swimmers, and have been swimming Masters ever since,\u201d Herrmann says. \u201cIt\u2019s been a fun nine years.\u201d<\/p>\n

And successful.<\/p>\n

The Clovis Swim Club Masters member has set 12 U.S. Masters Swimming records and two FINA Masters world records over that time, including in the 200 IM in the 35\u201339 age group at the 2022 USMS<\/a> Summer National Championship in Richmond, Virginia, with a time of 2:21.09.<\/p>\n

Other record-setters at the meet included Oregon Masters\u2019 Willard Lamb<\/strong>, who set nine FINA Masters world records and 12 USMS records; North Carolina Masters Swimming\u2019s Erika Braun<\/strong>, who set one FINA Masters world record and four USMS records; and Lone Star Masters\u2019 David Guthrie<\/strong>, who set three FINA Masters world records and three USMS records.<\/p>\n

Herrmann added national championships in the 50 and 100 breaststroke, both of her times just shy of world records she set earlier this summer, and in the 100 butterfly at the meet.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Setting world records] was definitely the goal coming in,\u201d Herrmann says. \u201cI\u2019m swimming four events, I\u2019m going to try to get all four, but I\u2019m so excited to be able to break those world records.<\/p>\n

\u201cSwimming is one of those fun sports where it\u2019s, like, you had your best time and you\u2019re, like, \u2018OK, I still have room for improvement,\u2019 and those records are just another thing to reach toward. There\u2019s always goals. That\u2019s what keeps me going.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do this because it\u2019s fun. I do this because it makes me feel good, and I like really like racing. It\u2019s all about perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n
