They made a mockery of the 400 free relay. So what exactly was going to stand in the way of the Australian female sprint dominance in the 50 freestyle Sunday at the Commonwealth Games?<\/p>\n<p>Precisely nothing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emma McKeon<\/strong> led a 1-2-3 Aussie sweep of the medals, her time of 23.99 the second-fastest in the world this year.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/results.birmingham2022.com\/#\/athletic-sports-schedule\/SWM\/*\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2022-commenwealth-games-birmingham\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Information Page<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>McKeon&#8217;s win gives her 11 all-time gold medals at the Commonwealth Games. That <a href=\"https:\/\/supersport.com\/commonwealthgames\/news\/77421123-540c-4cee-ad89-9725f91a32fc\/mckeon_equals_australian_commonwealth_gold_record\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">breaks a three-way tie<\/a> with <strong>Ian Thorpe, Susie O&#8217;Neill<\/strong> and <strong>Leisel Jones<\/strong> as the most decorated Australian ever at the Commonwealth Games. It\u2019s her 17th overall piece of CG hardware.<\/p>\n<p>McKeon, the reigning Olympic champion, skipped the World Championships this summer to ready for the Commonwealth Games. Her time of 23.99 was just .01 behind the time used by <strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> to capture the world title.<\/p>\n<p>Second was <strong>Meg Harris,<\/strong> the bronze medalist in Budapest, in 24.32, to cap a decorated summer for her. <strong>Shanya Jack<\/strong> wrapped up bronze in 24.36. There was nearly a half second back to the first non-Australian, with <strong>Emma Chelius<\/strong> taking fourth in 24.78 for that distinction on behalf of South Africa. England landed fifth and sixth, thanks to <strong>Anna Hopkin<\/strong> and <strong>Isabella Hindley,<\/strong> respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The Australians have utterly dominated the women&#8217;s side of the Commonwealth Games. <strong>Ariarne Titmus<\/strong> led <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/commonwealth-games-ariarne-titmus-fights-off-furious-charge-by-mollie-ocallaghan-for-gold-in-200-freestyle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a podium sweep in the 200 free<\/a>. The Australian 400 free relay won Saturday\u2019s final <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/commonwealth-games-australia-dominates-womens-400-free-relay-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by nearly six seconds<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>McKeon was third quickest in semifinals, behind Jack and Harris. But that trio reversed order in the final. She had gone 23.81 to win gold in Tokyo, one of her seven medals at that Games.
