GENEVA, Ohio, March 2. AKRON has captured the 2014 Mid-American Conference Women\u2019s Swimming & Diving Championship Saturday night at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The title marks the Zips\u2019 first MAC championship in program history.<\/p>\n

Akron compiled 574 total points throughout the three-day event. Miami finished second after collecting 496 points and Bowling Green was third with 476 points. Eastern Michigan (469), Buffalo (446), Ohio (362), Toledo (348), & Ball State (334) rounded out the event.<\/p>\n

Buffalo\u2019s Jessica Powers started off the evening by claiming the 1650 yard Free title in a time of 16:21.10. Ohio\u2019s Laurin Williams placed second in the event with a time of 16:34.04, while Powers\u2019 teammate Spencer Rodriguez placed third in a time of 16:36.75.<\/p>\n

Buffalo\u2019s Brittney Kuras took home the 100 yard Free title in a pool record, Championship record & MAC record time of 48.50. It marked the third year in a row that Kuras has won the title.<\/p>\n

Toledo\u2019s Christina Noens claimed the 200 yard Back Championship title in a time of 1:56.19, while Ball State\u2019s Bridgette Ruehl won the 200 yard Breast in a pool record time of 2:11.89.<\/p>\n

Eastern Michigan\u2019s Jessie Godlewski won the 200 yard Fly title in a pool record time of 1:58.37. Toledo\u2019s Beth Rogers finished second in 1:59.80, while Akron\u2019s Erin Seiler placed third in 2:00.36.<\/p>\n

Buffalo won the final race of the evening as the relay team of Spencer Rodriguez, Taylor Steffl, Marissa Murphy & Brittney Kuras claimed the 400 Free Relay in a time of 3:19.37. Bowling Green finished in second (3:20.49) with Miami taking home third (3:22.54).<\/p>\n

UB\u2019s Kuras was named Most Outstanding Swimmer, while Eastern Michigan\u2019s Danielle Hulvey was named Most Outstanding Diver of the Championships. Akron head coach Brian Peresie collected Swimming Coach of the Year honors, while Ohio’s Russ Decker was named Diving Coach of the Year.<\/p>\n
