Oleksiak\u2019s 13-14 age-group mark was set in 2015 at 1:00.03.<\/p>\n<p>Clark, who represents the University of Calgary Swim Club, dashed that record to win the event against a senior field. Her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimming.ca\/en\/swimmer\/5245527\/rankings\/?competition=Style-16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previous best time had been from earlier this month<\/a> at the Keyano Invitational at 1:01.13. Clark was 20th at Canadian Trials for the World Championships and Commonwealth Games in April, going 1:01.55.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s pretty exciting,\u201d Clark said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimming.ca\/en\/news\/2022\/07\/26\/rising-star-clark-breaks-oleksiak-age-group-record-on-day-1-of-canadian-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a Swimming Canada press release<\/a>. \u201cI didn\u2019t think at all I would get that record coming into this meet. It\u2019s pretty awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clark trains at UCSC along with Canadian program stalwarts like <strong>Rachel Nicol<\/strong> and <strong>Rebecca Smith.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Swimming Canada has had no recent shortage of teenage stars. <strong>Summer McIntosh<\/strong> set a Canadian record at the Tokyo Olympics last year, a month before her 15th birthday. She holds <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/summer-mcintosh-has-officially-arrived-now-pointing-toward-greatness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">multiple world junior records<\/a>. Distance swimmer <strong>Katrina Bellio<\/strong> turned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/canadian-olympic-trials-16-year-old-katrina-bellio-hits-1500-free-a-cut\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">17 during the Tokyo Games<\/a>. Oleksiak tied for gold at the 2016 Olympics at 16. <strong>Taylor Ruck<\/strong> won a pair of Olympic medals at age 16 in Rio.<\/p>\n<p>Also swimming at the meet is <strong>Ingrid Wilm,<\/strong> the lone Canadian from the 2022 World Championships team to be present at the meet. Wilm won the 50 backstroke in 27.66 seconds. A former national record-holder in the short-course event, Wilm was fourth at Worlds in 27.43. She also won her first major international medal in Budapest, getting bronze in the medley relay for her prelims swim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was an okay swim,\u201d Wilm said. \u201cIn the Worlds final, I took an extra stroke, so I was much too close to the wall. In this one I glided into the touch, so I was a little far.
