On the men&#8217;s side, <strong>Shaine Casas<\/strong> set the pace, leading a quintet of 48s to the wall.<\/p>\n<p>Hinds bossed the final heat of nine in the women\u2019s event, gliding out in front of the field and shutting it down late. She still was easily the top seed, leading a veteran top three into the final. <strong>Mallory Comerford<\/strong> took second place in prelims for an inside lane in finals in 54.28. Third place went to <strong>Gabi Albiero<\/strong> in 54.47.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2022-phillips-66-usa-national-championships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Page<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/2022\/phillips-66-national-championships-live-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The youth movement follows. The fourth seed went to 16-year-old <strong>Erika Pelaez,<\/strong> who went 54.65, a best time by more than a second and the sixth-fastest all-time for a 15-16 year old. <strong>Erin Gemmell<\/strong> was sixth, behind <strong>Chloe Stepanek.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Veterans <strong>Kelly Pash<\/strong> and <strong>Catie DeLoof<\/strong> find themselves in the B final, in ninth and 10th, respectively. That heat also produced fourth seed <strong>Kieran Smith,<\/strong> the Olympic medalist going 48.86 in an event that is a little outside his normal wheelhouse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zach Apple<\/strong> won the penultimate heat in 48.47, good for third overall. Final heat victor was <strong>Justin Ress, <\/strong>earning him the fifth seed in 49.89. He\u2019s joined by <strong>Luke Maurer, Destin Lasco<\/strong> and <strong>Danny Krueger<\/strong> in the final.<\/p>\n<p>That means that <strong>Andrei Minakov, <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/led-by-andrei-minakov-u-s-nationals-will-feature-strong-international-flavor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the top seed entering the morning<\/a>, misses out on the A final.
