Our successful internship programs have connected interns with jobs in related fields across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Do you like working from a coffee shop or from home? As long as you have access to email and WiFi, you can work for us! This internship is conducted via email and Slack, so all work can be done remotely.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a college student who is interested in a career in journalism, communications, marketing, social media, business, sports, public relations, blogging, writing, web content writing, or if you want to be an entrepreneur&#8230; YOU SHOULD APPLY!\u00a0 We are seeking interns from all areas of aquatic sports &#8211; swimming, diving, water polo, synchronized swimming and open water swimming.<\/p>\n<h2>Journalism Intern Program<\/h2>\n<p>Our journalism <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/like-a-girl-the-pride-in-being-a-female-athlete\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interns<\/a> will learn the ropes from our senior writers by assisting them with a variety of journalism projects. Their work will be valuable as Swimming World continues to offers its readership news, commentary, analysis, features and more. As an intern, you will learn a range of journalism skills such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gathering information and research (and learning about aquatic sports in the process)<\/li>\n<li>Prioritizing and understanding how you fit into a news desk and wider news operation<\/li>\n<li>How to write a news story<\/li>\n<li>How to write a feature<\/li>\n<li>Writing for digital media<\/li>\n<li>Understanding media law<\/li>\n<li>Legal and ethical considerations<\/li>\n<li>Using social media in journalism<\/li>\n<li>Technology tools for journalists<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A large percentage of <em>Swimming World\u2019s<\/em> most-read online content has been written by our stellar interns.\u00a0 Our cohort of interns significantly improves our ability to cover aquatic sports and events, and engage the worldwide community of athletes, coaches, fans, and enthusiasts.<\/p>\n<h2>Social Media Intern Program<\/h2>\n<p>Social media is a widely relied upon source for news, entertainment, and connection for people all over the world.\u00a0 At <em>Swimming World<\/em> and the International Swimming Hall of Fame, we use social media as a way to extend the reach of our news stories.\u00a0 We also use it to provide stories about people in the aquatics community, share photos and videos of events, re-share fun content we find, give inspiration for athletes at all levels, celebrate the heroes of aquatic sports, and much more.<\/p>\n<p>As a social media intern you will learn about:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Social strategy and planning<\/li>\n<li>Guidelines and ethics for using social media on a professional level<\/li>\n<li>Working with influencers and brands<\/li>\n<li>Creating original content<\/li>\n<li>Using a variety of technology platforms<\/li>\n<li>Attention to detail<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The Journalism Application Process<\/h3>\n<p>If you or someone you know \u2013 athlete, team manager, grad assistant, etc. \u2013 is interested in gaining exposure and journalism experience this school year, please submit the following to <strong>John Lohn\u00a0<\/strong>at lohn@swimmingworld.com<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A brief bio including name, school, conference, major and class.<\/li>\n<li>A brief letter about how this internship will contribute to your professional goals and what you hope to gain through the program.<\/li>\n<li>An aquatics-related writing sample. This may be an analysis piece, a feature story, or a training-specific article. Be sure to edit your story thoroughly. Look through our website to see examples of our intern stories!\n<ul>\n<li>*Please aim for between 600 and 800 words and abide by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.codot.gov\/business\/grants\/safetygrants\/documents\/APStyleGuideCheatSheet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Associated Press Style rules<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Applications are due Friday, August 19.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*Applicants will be notified of their selection by\u00a0<strong>Monday, August 29<\/strong>.
