Solicitors acting for Michelle Smith-De Bruin, the triple Olympic champion, have called a press conference in Dublin regarding a drug test taken by the swimmer. <\/p>\n
The test is believed to have been conducted in Ireland last January while the World Championships were in progress in Perth, Australia. The test was conducted by International Drug Test Management, the Swedish firm contracted to perform tests on behalf of FINA. <\/p>\n
A spokesperson for Lennon, Heather and Co, the swimmers solicitors said that tests carried out on the swimmer had given rise to a degree of confusion and that there was a “difference of opinion” between his office and FINA on the matter. <\/p>\n
Since winning three gold medals at the 1996 Olympics, De Bruin has been the subject of controversy concerning the issue of drug use. The career of De Bruin’s trainer and husband, Erik, ended in 1993 when he failed a drug test at a track meet in Germany and was banned for four years. <\/p>\n
