{"id":508899,"date":"2022-07-22T17:57:27","date_gmt":"2022-07-23T00:57:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=508899"},"modified":"2022-07-22T17:57:27","modified_gmt":"2022-07-23T00:57:27","slug":"daniel-diehl-wins-fifth-title-at-ymca-nationals-with-54-74-100-backstroke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/daniel-diehl-wins-fifth-title-at-ymca-nationals-with-54-74-100-backstroke\/","title":{"rendered":"Daniel Diehl Wins Fifth Title at YMCA Nationals With 54.74 100 Backstroke"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Daniel Diehl Wins Fifth Title at YMCA Nationals With 54.74 100 Backstroke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over the first three days of the YMCA Nationals in Greensboro, N.C.,\u00a0<strong>Daniel Diehl<\/strong> captured wins in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/anna-moesch-destroys-100-freestyle-record-at-ymca-nationals-adds-blazing-50-free-split\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">100 free<\/a>, 200 free, 200 back and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/daniel-diehl-anna-moesch-win-again-on-third-night-of-ymca-nationals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">50 back<\/a>, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/daniel-diehl-scares-peirsols-200-back-nag-record-at-ymca-nationals-also-wins-200-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the 200 backstroke performance making Diehl the third-fastest 15-16 swimmer in U.S. history<\/a>. Friday evening, the 16-year-old from Cumberland YMCA in Maryland finished first in his signature event, the 100 back. He swam a time of 53.59 earlier this year to break\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy&#8217;s<\/strong> National Age Group record, and he was a finalist in the event at the International Team Trials in April. This time, Diehl finished in 54.74 to hold off Western Branch&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tommy Janton<\/strong> (54.90) for his fifth individual win of the meet.<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#8217;s 100 back, Fanwood Scotch&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Clare Logan\u00a0<\/strong>put up a quick mark of 1:01.99 to take the win, while Greater Somerset County&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Megan Sharma<\/strong> won the 100 breast in 1:14.07. Spartanburg&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kirsti McEnroe<\/strong> pulled away to win the 400 free in 4:23.76, and Upper Main Line&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alexa Fulton<\/strong> won the 50 fly in 27.24. Greater Somerset&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Anna Moesch<\/strong> had the day off from individual events after already winning the 100 free, 200 free and 400 IM, but she led off her team&#8217;s 800 free relay in 2:01.31, and teammates\u00a0<strong>Colleen Bull<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Emily Thompson<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Caitlyn Hughes<\/strong> held on to win in 8:25.49.<\/p>\n<p>A brilliant finish for Upper Main Line&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kevin Cary<\/strong> helped him produce a win in the men&#8217;s 400 free (4:04.68), and ME Lyons&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Jack Grandy\u00a0<\/strong>hit the wall first in the men&#8217;s 100 breast (1:04.25). The men&#8217;s 50 fly win went to Lakeland Hills&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Finn Coogan Russell\u00a0<\/strong>(24.82).
