Championships<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Lorenzo Galossi<\/strong> continued the recent form that has drawn admiring glances with an 800 free victory in 7:46.28, a national junior record that would see him challenge in senior waters at the <strong>Italian Summer Championships<\/strong> in Ostia.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"tps:\/\/fin2022.microplustiming.com\/NU_2022_07_19-21_Ostia_web.php?s=TG9hZENhbGVuZGFyaW8oJzAnKTs=&amp;cat=ASF&amp;page=016&amp;spec=007&amp;bat=001&amp;td=SUM&amp;hg=&amp;descIT=RG9ubmXCoC3CoDUwIG0gUmFuYSAtIFNlcmll&amp;descEN=RG9ubmXCoC3CoDUwbSBCcmVhc3RzdHJva2UgLSBTZXJpZQ==&amp;descFR=RG9ubmXCoC3CoDUwIG0gQnJhc3NlIC0gU2VyaWU=&amp;curCatSel_M_F=\">Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Italy has been blessed with two great distance freestylers in recent years in <strong>Gregorio Paltrinieri<\/strong> and <strong>Gabriele Detti<\/strong> and now Galossi looks set to join them.<\/p>\n<p>Galossi only turned 16 in May and announced himself last month at the <strong>European Junior Championships<\/strong> with silver behind <strong>David Popovici<\/strong> in the 200 free as well as gold in the 400 (3:48.14) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/rising-italian-star-lorenzo-galossi-powers-to-european-juniors-crown-in-800-freestyle\/\">800 (7:52.04)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/david-popovici-takes-200-free-in-145-95-merve-tuncel-goes-eighth-in-1500-rankings-at-european-juniors\/\">He split the second half of the 200<\/a> in 54.50 to Popovici&#8217;s 54.71 although he finished 2.26secs behind the double world champion in 1:47.71.<\/p>\n<p>Galossi&#8217;s time on Wednesday may have been seven seconds adrift of Paltrinieri&#8217;s European record of 7:39.27 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-bobby-finke-becomes-first-american-man-to-win-800-free-world-crown-wellbrock-romanchuk-on-podium\/\">but it would have earned sixth spot at the World Championships in Budapest<\/a>, displacing Detti (7:47.75) in the process.<\/p>\n<p>The 16-year-old was out in 27.16 and moved into first place at 350, his splits ranging from 28.97-29.97 before coming home in 27.64 to slice 3.48secs from the previous junior mark of 7:49.76 he set in April.<\/p>\n<p>Behind him came another prospect <strong>Luca de Tullio<\/strong>, the 18-year-old moving into second at halfway and stopping the clock at 7:51.78.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rita Caramignoli<\/strong> won the women&#8217;s event in 8:37.87.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alessandro Miressi<\/strong> won the men&#8217;s 100 free (48.41) while\u00a0Olympic bronze medallist <strong>Federico Burdisso<\/strong> took the men&#8217;s 200 fly, leading from start to finish to touch in 1:55.45, over 1.5secs ahead of nearest challenger <strong>Giacomo Carini<\/strong> (1:56.96).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pier Andrea Matteazzi<\/strong> took the men&#8217;s 400IM in 4:16.14 with <strong>Simone Carasuolo<\/strong> winning the 50br (26.93) and <strong>Michele Lamberti<\/strong> the 50 back in 25.31.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chiara Tarantino<\/strong> made up a deficit of 0.29 at halfway to overhaul <strong>Silvia di Pietro<\/strong> in the 100 free, winning in 54.69 to 54.84.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ilaria Bianchi<\/strong> won the 100 fly in 58.71, the only woman inside 59,\u00a0<strong>Federica Toma<\/strong> took the women&#8217;s 100 back in 1:00.10, <strong>Sara Franceschi<\/strong> claimed the 400IM in 4:42.46 with <strong>Benedetta Pilato<\/strong> a clear winner in the 50br in
