Penn State Names Dan Carrington as Associate Head Coach<\/strong><\/p>\n

Penn State hired Dan Carrington<\/strong> as an associate head coach on Tuesday, bringing the veteran coach over after six seasons at Florida State.<\/p>\n

Carrington arrived at Florida State after two seasons at Miami (Ohio) as an assistant<\/a> and two stints at Duke University. He joins the staff of head coach Tim Murphy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI’m excited to work with Coach Murphy and his staff in their pursuit of excellence,\u201d Carrington said in a university statement<\/a>. \u201cThe entire Penn State athletic department is well prepared to achieve greatness. My wife and I grew up in Big Ten country, and we’re excited to return and show our daughters, Grace and Liana, all about the traditions and success.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carrington focused primarily on the distance group at Florida State, whose men\u2019s team was ranked at the end of each of his six seasons in Tallahassee. He mentored six All-Americans and six ACC gold medalists there. He also coordinated Florida State\u2019s recruiting efforts.<\/p>\n

Carrington graduated from Ball State in 2002. He worked outside the pool as a chemist for several years.<\/p>\n

In the coaching ranks, he started at Duke for the 2007-08 season, in addition to work at the Durham YMCA and other school teams. He was the head coach at Southwestern University in Texas from 2009-11, leading the team to a pair of SCAC titles and its first NCAA automatic qualifier. He won the ASCA Award of Excellence in 2011.<\/p>\n
