with Whittle the only other man inside 25 in 24.56 &#8211; the teenager had established a 0.66 lead by halfway which he extended to 1.3secs at the final turn.<\/p>\n<p>He came home in 27.13 for victory with Galossi&#8217;s second 100 of 54.50 (27.47\/27.03) propelling him past Whittle to stop the clock at 1:47.71 to the Briton&#8217;s 1:47.85.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Popovici splits:<\/strong>\u00a024.25\/50.74 (26.49)\/1:18.32 (27.58)\/1:45.45 (27.13)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Galossi splits<\/strong>: 25.43\/53.21 (27.78)\/1:20.24 (27.03)\/1:47.71 (27.47)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whittle splits<\/strong>: 24.56\/51.40 (26.84)\/1:19.62 (28.22)\/1:47.85 (28.23)<\/p>\n<p>Romanian tennis player Ion Tiriac, who won the doubles at the 1970 French Open, was among the 2,000 watching on at the Otopeni complex.<\/p>\n<p>Popovici spoke ahead of the meet about his desire to experience the roar of hometown support as did the Hungarians in Budapest last month.<\/p>\n<p>After his 200 free gold, he said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cToday it wasn\u2019t about time, I just wanted to enjoy this swim, I took the breath towards the crowd side to see the people waving their flags and jumping in joy and it was great.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Even if I had multiple swims daily, this atmosphere really helps me to recover and feel fresh.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now I kind of recognise what <strong>Kristof Milak<\/strong> could feel while racing at home in Budapest at the Worlds.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Come the final event of the evening and Popovici was in the water again, 24 hours after going 47.54 as the host nation won relay gold.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday he sliced 0.20secs off that time to give the mixed free quartet a lead of 1.03 over <strong>Ksawery Masiuk<\/strong> of Poland, fresh from his 50 back victory and clocking 48.37, 0.15 off <strong>Konrad Czerniak<\/strong>&#8216;s national record of 48.22 from the super-suited 2009 worlds.<\/p>\n<p>Romania held a 0.38 lead over Poland at the final changeover only for Dora Molnar &#8211; It\u2019s just a good feeling that you are destined to win, and you deliver, now my focus is on our relays.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Tuncel returned for the 1500 in which she set a European junior record of 15:55.23 en-route to the title last year at the <strong>Foro Italico<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Turkish swimmer led throughout to win by almost eight seconds in 16:13.68 ahead of France&#8217;s <strong>Alexa Reyna<\/strong> (16:21.46) with 15-year-old <strong>Julia Barth<\/strong> of Germany taking bronze in 16:33.87.<\/p>\n<p>Tuncel said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt is my last year among the juniors, so it was really nice to win this race. It is hard to swim the 1500m free final and the 200m free final in the same session.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After the 200m I was a bit nervous if I could do my favourite event well but when I started it, I was calm and I was able to do what I was expected to do.
