{"id":508075,"date":"2022-07-01T22:23:59","date_gmt":"2022-07-02T05:23:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=508075"},"modified":"2022-07-01T22:23:59","modified_gmt":"2022-07-02T05:23:59","slug":"seattle-university-names-joe-dykstra-head-swimming-coaching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/seattle-university-names-joe-dykstra-head-swimming-coaching\/","title":{"rendered":"Seattle University Names Joe Dykstra Head Swimming Coaching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Seattle University Names Joe Dykstra Head Swimming Coaching<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Former Utah head coach <strong>Joe Dykstra<\/strong> has been named the head coach of Seattle University\u2019s men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming programs, the university announced Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Dykstra <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/utah-head-coach-joe-dykstra-resigns-after-nine-seasons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resigned from Utah at the end of March<\/a> after nine seasons in charge. He had coached 10 swimmers who claimed 25 CSCAA All-Americans over the last three seasons and mentored four total Pac-12 champions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am thrilled for the opportunity to lead the Seattle U swimming programs,&#8221; Dykstra said <a href=\"https:\/\/goseattleu.com\/news\/2022\/7\/1\/mens-swimming-joe-dykstra-named-mens-and-womens-swimming-head-coach.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a university statement<\/a>. &#8220;Seattle is where I got my start in the world of college swimming and I have longed for the opportunity to be back to what I consider home for quite a while. This program has huge potential and I am excited to help unlock that. There is so much that this university, athletic department and city can offer to the development of student athletes. I would like to thank Director of Athletics Shaney Fink and Assistant AD Matt Bomar for their belief in me and I can&#8217;t wait to get to work in elevating the Redhawk programs and make a difference in the lives of these young people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Before Utah, Dykstra spent seven seasons as the head coach at North Texas. He sent Mean Green swimmers to the NCAA Championships for the first time and was twice the Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year. Dykstra is returning closer to his roots, as a graduate of the University of Washington who spent six years as the associate head coach of the Huskies.<\/p>\n<p>Dykstra has also served for two years <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cscaa-announces-joe-dykstra-as-president-elect-for-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as the president of the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America<\/a> and as the chairman of the Division I Swimming &amp; Diving Committee.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are excited to welcome Joe Dykstra to the Redhawk family,&#8221;
