024 SWIMMING TECHNIQUE CONCEPTS: THE EFFECT OF VELOCITY AND TECHNIQUE ON RESISTANCE<\/strong><\/span>

\nWater resistance (i.e., resistive force, also called drag) presents a huge obstacle to competitive swimmers. The magnitude of the effect of swimming velocity and technique on resistance emphasizes the importance of these factors on swimming performance. Conveniently, the drag equation calculates resistance based on both velocity and technique (as measured by the drag coefficient and the cross-sectional area of the body that is perpendicular to the flow of water).<\/p>\n
