Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lena Hentschel<\/strong> is officially a Buckeye. Hentschel is set to join the Buckeye diving team for the 2022-23 season, Ohio State diving coach Justin Sochor<\/strong> announced Thursday.<\/p>\n

In Toyko last summer, Hentschel and her partner picked up the bronze medal for Germany in the synchronized 3m springboard event with a score of 284.97. The duo won country\u2019s first medal of the Olympics and became just the second German pair to win an Olympic medal in the event.<\/p>\n

Lena Hentschel is quite familiar with success on the international stage, winning gold in the 3m synchro at the 2020 European Aquatics Championships held in May of 2021. The result was an improvement on her silver medal won at the 2018 event.<\/p>\n

At the FINA Diving Grand Prix, the Berlin, Germany native won the 3m synchro gold at the Leg 1 event in 2018. She picked up bronze medals in the mixed 3m synchro in 2019 and the women\u2019s 3m synchro later in 2018.<\/p>\n

Hentschel, who has won over 20 competitions in the German Junior Championships during her career, took gold in both the 1m and 3m springboard at the 2016 European Junior Diving Championships.<\/p>\n

Joining seven other Buckeyes who earned trips to Budapest for the 2022 FINA World Championships, Lena Hentschel looks to add to her international medal collection as she competes in the 3m springboard on July 1 and the synchronized 3m on July 3.<\/p>\n
