{"id":507763,"date":"2022-06-25T10:52:14","date_gmt":"2022-06-25T17:52:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=507763"},"modified":"2022-06-25T18:28:44","modified_gmt":"2022-06-26T01:28:44","slug":"world-championships-united-states-wins-third-straight-world-title-in-womens-medley-relay-ahead-of-australia-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-united-states-wins-third-straight-world-title-in-womens-medley-relay-ahead-of-australia-canada\/","title":{"rendered":"World Championships: United States Wins Third Straight World Title In Women&#8217;s Medley Relay Ahead Of Australia &#038; Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>World Championships: United States Wins Third Straight World Title In Women&#8217;s Medley Relay Ahead Of Australia &amp; Canada<\/h4>\n<p>The <strong>United States<\/strong> won the women\u2019s 4&#215;100 medley relay from lane one to bring down the curtain on the World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>The quartet of <strong>Regan Smith, Lilly King, Torri Huske<\/strong> and <strong>Claire Curzan<\/strong> stopped the clock at 3:53.78.<\/p>\n<p>It was the <strong>United States<\/strong>\u2019 third straight victory in the\u00a0event as they finished ahead of <strong>Australia<\/strong> (3:54.24) and <strong>Canada<\/strong> (3:55.01).<\/p>\n<p><strong>United States<\/strong>: Smith (58.40); King (1:05.89); Huske (56.67); Curzan (52.82)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Australia<\/strong>: McKeown (58.77); Strauch (1:05.99); Throssell (57.19); O&#8217;Callaghan (52.30)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Canada<\/strong>: Masse (58.39); Nichol (1:07.17); MacNeil (56.80); Oleksiak (52.65)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/2022\/19th-fina-world-championships-sw-live-results\">Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-how-to-watch-swimming-action-plus-key-links\/\">How to Watch &amp; Key Links<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-australia-claims-top-seed-in-womens-400-medley-relay-u-s-advances-in-seventh\/\">Australia Claims Top Seed In Women&#8217;s 400 Medley Relay; US Advances In Seventh<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Curzan anchored the United States in 52.82 with Australian swimmer <strong>Mollie O&#8217;Callaghan<\/strong> reducing the deficit with each stroke in the final metres.<\/p>\n<p>The American said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0&#8220;They are a really strong team so I think they&#8217;re always going to be coming but I was hoping to pull it off for the girls and just leave everything in the pool.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Just finish the meet strong and hopefully get a gold for Team USA.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Smith led off in 58.40, although <strong>Kylie Masse<\/strong> gave Canada the smallest of leads in 58.39 with <strong>Kaylee McKeown<\/strong> third for Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Smith has now led off the team at the 2019 worlds, 2020 Olympics and in Budapest.<\/p>\n<p>She said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I have a ton of pride. It&#8217;s really,really cool to lead off a medley relay like that for Team USA.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have such a strong history in this event so it&#8217;s an honour to get to do backstroke for three international meets in a row now &#8211; it&#8217;s crazy to say that, to think I&#8217;m a veteran on the relay is crazy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have so much fun doing the relay and we have a great team with us today.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Huske leaves Budapest with three golds &#8211; including the 100 fly &#8211; and three bronzes.<\/p>\n<p>It was a demanding &#8211; if successful\u00a0 &#8211; week for the 19-year-old who said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I am pretty tired. I definitely felt it on the first half of the race also and I was like &#8216;that&#8217;s not supposed to be happening&#8217; .<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But I had so much faith in\u00a0 the team and I knew I wasn&#8217;t just swimming for myself so I tried my best and it made it a lot easier knowing who I was swimming for.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think that got me through the race.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>King added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe main goal was to set a great time and of course, to win the gold. We did a pretty good race and I\u2019m so happy because all of us are very happy.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Jenna Strauch<\/strong> won silver in the 200 breaststroke and her leg of 1:05.99 was the second fastest in the field, drawing the Australians into second place.<\/p>\n<p>It was her second silver of the meet and she said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI\u2019m so happy now, we won a medal in an amazing battle against strong teams.
