World Championships: U.S., Australia, Canada to Battle for Mixed 400 Free Relay Title (Lineups)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The mixed 400 freestyle relay will conclude the seventh evening of finals at the FINA World Championships in Budapest, and the top-seeded team will be the United States, which has won this gold medal in all three World Championships since the event was added to the program in 2015. All eight teams swimming in the final will start off with two male swimmers and use two female swimmers on the end.<\/p>\n

The Americans will lead off with Ryan Held<\/strong>, who swam under 48 for the first time in three years with his 47.85 leadoff leg in prelims<\/a>, and Held also split 46.99 on the men’s 400 free relay earlier in the meet. Held will be followed by men’s 100 free finalist\u00a0Brooks Curry\u00a0<\/strong>before teenagers\u00a0Torri Huske<\/strong> and\u00a0Claire Curzan<\/strong> swim the last two legs. Huske already has a world title in the 100 fly and a bronze medal in the 100 free at this meet, while Curzan took bronze in the 100 back, and both were part of two U.S. medal-winning relays.<\/p>\n

In lane three, Australia will present the biggest challenge to the Americans with a team of\u00a0Jack Cartwright<\/strong>,\u00a0Kyle Chalmers<\/strong>,\u00a0Madison Wilson<\/strong> and\u00a0Mollie O’Callaghan<\/strong>. Chalmers was the 2016 Olympic gold medalist in the men’s 100 free and silver medalist in Tokyo, but he did not race the individual event in Budapest. O’Callaghan won her first individual world title Thursday in the women’s 100 free.<\/p>\n

Canada will have a balanced lineup with\u00a0Josh Liendo<\/strong>,\u00a0Javier Acevedo<\/strong>,\u00a0Kayla Sanchez<\/strong> and Penny Oleksiak<\/strong>. Notably, Liendo will race in three finals during the session, with the 50 free and 100 butterfly also on his slate. The United States’ Huske is the only other swimmer set to race three times in the session, but one of Huske’s races will be a semifinal.<\/p>\n

Great Britain could also challenge with a\u00a0team of\u00a0Tom Dean<\/strong>,\u00a0Lewis Burras<\/strong>,\u00a0Anna Hopkin<\/strong> and\u00a0Freya Anderson<\/strong>. Check out the full start list for the race here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
