World Championships: Olympic Silver Medallist Arno Kamminga Withdraws From 200 Breaststroke Semi-Finals<\/h4>\n

Arno Kamminga<\/strong> has pulled out of the semi-finals of the men’s 200m breaststroke in Budapest.<\/p>\n

Kamminga claimed silver in the 100m breaststroke<\/a> and bronze as part of the Netherlands mixed 4x100m medley relay<\/a> at the Duna Arena.<\/p>\n

The two-time Olympic silver medallist progressed from prelims to the semis in 2:10.33 but withdrew on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

In his absence, Olympic champion Zac Stubblety-Cook<\/strong> went 2:06.72 to lead the field by almost two seconds<\/a> from his closest challenger Anton McKee<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Kamminga though will not be a part of the final in which he won silver in Tokyo as well as at the European Championships at the same Duna Arena last year.<\/p>\n

Following his silver in the 100, Kamminga said some in the Netherlands camp had had Covid which reduced some of his energy.<\/p>\n

He withdrew from the competition feeling unwell and posted to social media, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven’t felt fit since Saturday, but I’ve always been able to put that aside for my races so far.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am actually quite proud that I nevertheless managed to squeeze out two more medals: silver in the 100 metre breaststroke and yesterday with my teammates a beautiful bronze medal in the 4 x 100 mixed relay.\u201d<\/p>\n
