{"id":505136,"date":"2022-05-11T04:58:23","date_gmt":"2022-05-11T11:58:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=505136"},"modified":"2022-05-11T08:31:44","modified_gmt":"2022-05-11T15:31:44","slug":"james-guy-named-to-team-england-for-commonwealth-games-alice-tai-among-para-swimmers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/james-guy-named-to-team-england-for-commonwealth-games-alice-tai-among-para-swimmers\/","title":{"rendered":"James Guy Named To Team England For Commonwealth Games; Alice Tai Among Para-Swimmers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>James Guy<\/strong> and <strong>Freya Anderson<\/strong> are among a second wave of swimmers to be named to Team England for the Commonwealth Games in July.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alice Tai<\/strong>, six-time world champion in 2019, and <strong>Reece Dunn<\/strong>, who won three golds in a five-strong haul at the Paralympics in Tokyo, feature in a para-swimming team of 14.<\/p>\n<p>Ten swimmers, including Olympic champions <strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> and <strong>Tom Dean<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-tom-dean-among-10-on-england-commonwealth-team-mel-marshall-named-head-coach\/\">were preselected in January<\/a> following their achievements in Tokyo last year although the latter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-ruled-out-of-world-championships-in-budapest-with-foot-injury\/\">announced earlier on Wednesday<\/a> that he would miss the World Championships in Budapest with a broken foot.<\/p>\n<p>They are now joined by a further 24 athletes with a range of youth and experience including 18-year-olds <strong>Freya Colbert<\/strong> and <strong>Tamryn van Selm<\/strong> through to <strong>Adam Barrett<\/strong> who turns 30 during the Games, eight years after winning three medals, including medley relay gold, at Glasgow 2014.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jacob Whittle<\/strong> is set for a busy summer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympian-jacob-whittle-among-british-swimming-squad-for-european-junior-championships\/\">with the 17-year-old competing at the World Championships<\/a> in Budapest before heading to Bucharest for the European juniors and then on to Birmingham.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lewis Burras<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/lewis-burras-0-01-off-british-100-free-record-in-world-leading-47-88-tom-dean-also-inside-worlds-cut-at-national-champs\/\">who won the 50\/100 free double<\/a> at the world trials in Sheffield last month, has also been selected.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jay Lelliott<\/strong> competed at the 2014 Games in Glasgow before winning 400 free bronze at the European Championships weeks later.<\/p>\n<p>He said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;So I have goals and this is the first stage of my goal, but it&#8217;s also a huge relief to get through this period because I know what I&#8217;m capable of.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;But obviously the first hurdle is you can turn up [at British Championships] in the best shape of your life and if two or three people beat you you&#8217;re out of contention so it&#8217;s all about turning up and being in the best shape possible. It&#8217;s such a relief but I&#8217;m now so excited to get my head down for the Commonwealth Games in the summer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI&#8217;ve got so many great people back at home, all of my squad at the City of Sheffield Swim Club are so excited.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;My partner Abby was over the moon for me, my family and all my friends knowing about it has been such a heart-warming time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;So I feel like I&#8217;m not just doing it for me, though I swim for me I feel like I&#8217;ve also got the whole of my team that helped me get to this point and that&#8217;s just such a rewarding feeling to get there not just for me but for them as well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Swimmers selected to
