{"id":504984,"date":"2022-05-06T07:03:58","date_gmt":"2022-05-06T14:03:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=504984"},"modified":"2022-05-06T13:01:27","modified_gmt":"2022-05-06T20:01:27","slug":"world-university-games-in-chengdu-postponed-to-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-university-games-in-chengdu-postponed-to-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"World University Games in Chengdu Postponed to 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>World University Games in Chengdu Postponed to 2023<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The World University Games in Chengdu have been postponed until 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The FISU (International University Sports Federation) Games had initially been scheduled for the summer of 2021, but were rescheduled because of the postponement of the Tokyo Olympic Games from 2020 to 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe decision to reschedule Chengdu 2021 is not one that was made easily, but it is the right decision for university athletes. Their welfare is always our number one priority. Continued uncertainty over conditions has made rescheduling the sensible choice &#8211; a number of National University Sports Federations had already changed their plans,\u201d Acting FISU President <strong>Leonz Eder<\/strong> said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fisu.net\/news\/summer-fisu-world-university-games\/chengdu-2021-fisu-world-university-games-rescheduled-for-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a>. \u201cTaking a team to the FISU World University Games is a great responsibility and FISU is confident that this decision will enable the greatest possible number of university athletes to attend next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The summer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/united-states-bidding-to-host-2027-summer-universiade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">games<\/a> will still take place in Chengdu and the 2023 winter games are scheduled for Lake Placid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFISU is looking forward to moving back to the rhythm that has proven very successful to date, of having FISU World University Championships one year and then FISU World University Games. This is only possible thanks to the commitment and dedication of all of our hosts around the world, to whom FISU remains deeply grateful. The Chengdu Organising Committee has made great efforts for the preparatory work since its successful bid.
