The U.S. Masters Spring National Championships kicked off on Thursday from San Antonio in record-breaking fashion.<\/p>\n

Three Masters National Age Group Records were broken on the first day of competition.<\/p>\n

Arnaldo Perez<\/strong> of the Sarasota Sharks broke the record in the 1650 freestyle for the 60-64 age group, touching the wall in a stunning 17:44.05.<\/p>\n

The Lone Star Masters broke the 55-and-over 400 mixed freestyle relay with a swim of 3:45.72. The swimmers on that relay were David Guthrie, Rick Van Dyke, Stephanie Stone<\/strong> and Kristin Henderson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Lone Star also broke the 65-and-over 400 mixed freestyle relay in 3:56.07. The relay members were David Hague, Bruce Williams, Lynn Morrison<\/strong> and Jeannie Woolslayer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Spring National Championship continues through the weekend from San Antonio with a full slate of events beginning Friday.<\/p>\n

The meet runs from Thursday through Sunday at the Northside ISD Swim Center.\u00a0In addition to the hundreds of swimmers of all ages competing, seven Olympians who swim U.S. Masters Swimming (USMS) are schedule to compete in the meet.<\/p>\n

San Antonio native Josh Davis<\/strong> was a U.S. Olympian in 1996 and 2000. He won three gold medals and two silver medals during his Olympic career.\u00a0Melissa Belote Ripley<\/strong> was a U.S. Olympian in 1972 and 1976, winning three gold medals during her career.<\/p>\n

Rick Colella<\/strong> won a bronze medal and made Olympic teams in 1972 and 1976 while Dave Wharton<\/strong> was a two-time Olympian in 1988 and 1992, winning a silver medal. Ashley Whitney<\/strong> won a gold in 1996.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
