THE University of Notre Dame women and the University of Pittsburgh men&#39;s swimming and diving teams each won its seventh straight Big East team championship this evening at the Goodwill Games pool here.<\/p>\n<p>The Fighting Irish of coach Bailey Weathers scored a record 730 points, 150 in front of Rutgers.  The Pittsburgh Panthers finished with 708 points, 135 points ahead of Virginia Tech.  Over the course of the three-day meet a total of 13 Big East records fell. <\/p>\n<p>The Pittsburgh men won five individual events and the 400 freestyle relay. Junior Eric Limkemann claimed victories in the 500 and 1650 freestyles. junior Randy Gertenbach won his third-straight title in the 200 breaststroke, senior Mike Grube (100 free) and freshman Jason Miller (200 fly) both earned first-place finishes for the Panthers too.  The Panthers&#39; 400 free relay team of Grube, Eric Bugby, Adam Webber and Darryl Washington also claimed a win. <\/p>\n<p>Virginia Tech finished second on the men\u2019s side. Sophomore Kevin Furlong was named Most Outstanding Men\u2019s Swimmer after setting a Big East Championship record in the 100 breaststroke (53.53), an NCAA &quot;A&quot; cut. He also helped the Hokies win both the 200 and 400 medley relays in record times. Senior Steve Tozer (100 back), junior Joey Piekarski (200 IM) and freshman Anders Frahm (200 back) each won individual titles for Tech. <\/p>\n<p>VT\u2019s Ned Skinner earned his first Men\u2019s Swimming Coach of the Year award. Miami\u2019s Randy Ableman won both the Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Diving Coach of the Year award for the second-straight year. <\/p>\n<p>*    *     *    *     * <\/p>\n<p>Notre Dame claimed its seventh-straight women\u2019s team title on the strength of five individual titles and two relay victories.  Junior Lisa Garcia claimed the 200 butterfly and 200 IM. Juniors Danielle Hulick (50 free) and Marie Labosky (400 IM) were the other individual winners for the Fighting&#39; Irish. ND also splashed  to titles in the 200 free and 400 free relays. <\/p>\n<p>Junior Meghan Perry-Eaton was named Most Outstanding Diver after claiming the 1-meter championship and finishing second in the 3-meter event. <\/p>\n<p>Rutgers\u2019 Chuck Warner was named Women\u2019s Swimming Coach of the Year after the Scarlet Knights\u2019 second-place team finish and victories in six events. RU freshman Kelly Harrigan set records in the 100 and 200 backstrokes with her 200 clocking (1:56.02) an NCAA &quot;A&quot; cut as well.  She also finished runner-up in the 500 free, an outstanding performance. <\/p>\n<p>Rutgers&#39; senior Michelle De Freese defended her title in the 100 butterfly and she plus Harrigan also helped Rutgers claim both the 200 and 400 medley relays. <\/p>\n<p>Most Outstanding Swimmer honors went to Villanova&#39;s Becky Koch, who won two individual titles for the Wildcats in the 500-1650 freestyles, making the &quot;A&quot; cut in both. <\/p>\n<p>And Miami&#39;s Manon van Rooijen set a Big East record (1:46.44) in the 200 free for her second-consecutive championship in that race; then won the 100 free tonight (49.34).  <\/p>\n<p>FINAL MEN&#39;S STANDINGS<br \/>\n1.
