The five-day meet will see the top two finishers in most individual events earn qualification spots, plus the winners in the 50-meter events of butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke, and at least four swimmers (and up to six) will qualify in the 100 and 200 freestyle for relay purposes.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/the-top-15-u-s-male-swimmers-before-world-championship-trials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">men&#8217;s racing<\/a>\u00a0will be include superstar\u00a0<strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong>, the Olympic gold medalist in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly, as well as 800 and 1500 free gold medalist\u00a0<strong>Bobby Finke<\/strong>. World-record holder\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong> will race in his signature backstroke races, and while 2021 Olympians <strong>Chase Kalisz<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jay Litherland<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Zach Apple<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Michael Andrew<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Nic Fink<\/strong> are among the other standouts set to chase another opportunity on the international stage.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the predictions for which swimmers will qualify for Worlds.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Tuesday, April 26<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>200 Butterfly<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Luca Urlando<\/li>\n<li>Trenton Julian<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>The United States <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/assessing-the-u-s-men-in-the-six-non-medal-events-from-tokyo-olympics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has not captured an individual World Championship or Olympic medal in the 200 fly<\/a> since\u00a0<strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong> won gold at the 2016 Olympics.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>100 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Caeleb Dressel<\/li>\n<li>Zach Apple<\/li>\n<li>Brooks Curry<\/li>\n<li>Ryan Held<\/li>\n<li>Bowe Becker<\/li>\n<li>Drew Kibler<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><i>In the battle behind Dressel, Apple established himself as a clear No. 2 in the U.S. last year, while Curry recently swept the 50 and 100-yard free with strong performances at the NCAA Championships. After barely missing Tokyo, Held won silver in the 50 and 100 free at the Short Course World Championships.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong>1500 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Bobby Finke<\/li>\n<li>Charlie Clark<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Battle for second place will be wide open behind Finke, the Olympic champion.\u00a0<strong>Will Gallant<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>David Johnston<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Brennan Gravley<\/strong> are all returning finalists from Olympic Trials.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Wednesday, April 27<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>200 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Kieran Smith<\/li>\n<li>Drew Kibler<\/li>\n<li>Caeleb Dressel<\/li>\n<li>Luca Urlando<\/li>\n<li>Carson Foster<\/li>\n<li>Grant House<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Dressel has skipped the 200 free or scratched after prelims at most major qualification meets, but if he swims the final, he certainly has a chance at a top-two finish.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>200 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Nic Fink<\/li>\n<li>Will Licon<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><i>After gut-wrenching third-place finishes at consecutive Olympic Trials, this could be Licon&#8217;s chance to grab a spot on a World Championship team. Fink and Licon finished first and third, respectively, at the Short Course World Championships in December.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong>200 Backstroke<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Ryan Murphy<\/li>\n<li>Shaine Casas<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><i>The fourth-place finisher from the Olympics, <strong>Bryce Mefford<\/strong>, is not competing at Trials this year.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong>50 Butterfly<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Caeleb Dressel<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><strong>Thursday, April 28<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Carson Foster<\/li>\n<li>Jay Litherland<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Olympic gold medalist\u00a0<strong>Chase Kalisz<\/strong> is entered in this event, but it&#8217;s unclear if he plans to compete. He has not swum a long course 400 IM since Tokyo. Foster <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/u-s-international-team-trials-400-im-showdown-caeleb-dressel-in-100-freestyle-among-top-mens-races\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">will be looking for a breakthrough after finishing third at Olympic Trials and later swimming the world&#8217;s fastest time for 2021<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>100 Butterfly<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Caeleb Dressel<\/li>\n<li>Shaine Casas<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b><i>Michael Andrew<\/i><\/b><i> and\u00a0<strong>Luca Urlando<\/strong> will also be in the mix for spots on the Worlds team here.
