The Americans will select the top two finishers in most individual events to compete at this summer&#8217;s World Championships, plus the winners in the 50-meter events of butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke, and at least four swimmers (and up to six) will qualify in the 100 and 200 freestyle for relay purposes.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ahead-of-u-s-trials-the-top-15-female-swimmers-in-the-country\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">women&#8217;s competition<\/a> will be highlighted by superstar <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong>, who has spent the last decade as one of the world&#8217;s best swimmers, as well as individual Olympic gold medalist\u00a0<strong>Lydia Jacoby<\/strong> and world-record holders\u00a0<strong>Lilly King<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Regan Smith<\/strong>. Five other individual medalists from the Tokyo Olympics, <strong>Alex Walsh<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Kate Douglass<\/strong>, <strong>Hali Flickinger<\/strong>, <strong>Emma Weyant<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Annie Lazor<\/strong>, will also be competing.<\/p>\n<p>For these women&#8217;s predictions, we will go day-by-day in event order, beginning with the 200 butterfly.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Tuesday, April 26<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>200 Butterfly<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Hali Flickinger<\/li>\n<li>Regan Smith<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Teenager\u00a0<strong>Charlotte Hook<\/strong>, the silver medalist in this event at the Short Course World Championships, will pose a major challenge to Flickinger and Smith, who each captured individual medals in this event in Tokyo.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>100 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Abbey Weitzeil<\/li>\n<li>Kate Douglass<\/li>\n<li>Claire Curzan<\/li>\n<li>Gretchen Walsh<\/li>\n<li>Erika Brown<\/li>\n<li>Natalie Hinds<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Tight battle for relay spots should include Olympians <strong>Torri<\/strong> <strong>Huske<\/strong> and <strong>Olivia<\/strong> <strong>Smoliga<\/strong>, while\u00a0<strong>Simone Manuel<\/strong>, the 2016 Olympic gold medalist in the 100 free and a two-time world champion, is not entered.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>800 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Katie Ledecky<\/li>\n<li>Katie Grimes<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Ledecky has won four consecutive world titles in this event, and she could become the first woman to win gold in one event at five consecutive World Championships.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Wednesday, April 27<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>200 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Katie Ledecky<\/li>\n<li>Paige Madden<\/li>\n<li>Bella Sims<\/li>\n<li>Leah Smith<\/li>\n<li>Torri Huske<\/li>\n<li>Erin Gemmell<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Alex Walsh could be a surprising candidate to make a run for a relay spot.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>200 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Annie Lazor<\/li>\n<li>Lilly King<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>King swam under 2:20 for the first time in capturing silver in this event in Tokyo, while Lazor earned bronze.
