Ian Wright<\/strong> has been appointed national coach of Scottish Swimming<\/strong> and will take up the post on 9 August following the Commonwealth Games<\/strong> in Birmingham.<\/p>\n

Wright is currently the head performance coach for City of Glasgow Swim Team and in a career that has spanned 25 years, he has held roles as head coach at Warrender Baths Club in Edinburgh and Hatfield, near London.<\/p>\n

Wright has also held posts within Scottish Swimming, working as the performance coach at University of Stirling<\/strong>, when the programme was one of British Swimming\u2019s Intensive Training Centres.<\/p>\n

Wright said,<\/p>\n

\u201cI am really excited about the national coach role and am already looking forward to taking up the post.<\/p>\n

“That won\u2019t be until August though, as I still have a job to do at Glasgow, coaching swimmers through to the summer meets and hopefully to the Commonwealth Games should they secure nominations and selections.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Wright will join less than two years out from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games but he is already looking well beyond that.<\/p>\n

He said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThose who will be competing in Paris and the LA Games in 2028 are already swimming and most likely in development programmes.<\/p>\n

“We know that the 2032 Games are being held in Queensland and athletes attending those Games will only be in swimming lessons at the moment, they\u2019re the ones I\u2019ll be looking out for in the coming years.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Scottish Swimming\u2019s director of aquatics, Ally Whike<\/strong>, also commented:<\/p>\n

\u201cIan\u00a0is an excellent appointment for Scottish Swimming. He is well-known and respected within the swimming community and brings with him a wealth of experience and success in developing\u00a0strong club and performance programmes,\u00a0guiding\u00a0a number of\u00a0athletes onto Commonwealth, European and Olympic Games teams.<\/p>\n
