MONTEREY PARK, California, February 21. WITH only Saturday remaining in the 2014 MPSF Swimming and Diving Championship, the UC Davis women and BYU men should feel somewhat comfortable. The Aggies eye a third MPSF Championship in the four-year history of the meet, leading 489-420.5 over BYU. The Cougar men are in position to regain their top spot from 2012, owning a sizeable lead of 504-410 over Hawaii.<\/p>\n

Highlights from day three include Lauren Hall on the three-meter diving board, breaking teammate Aimee Harrison’s meet record from last year with 341.15. Ironically, Harrison stole Hall’s one-meter record one day earlier. UC Santa Barbara’s 400 Medley Relay team broke their own championship and facility record set last year (3:38.68). Jake Taylor of BYU earned 16 points in winning the men’s 100 Back (46.67), while Ali Mclean of Hawaii, Rainer Ng of BYU, and Oliver Simkovic of Pacific followed with NCAA ‘B’ cuts. The 100 Back was also a success with the women, as Hailey Campbell broke her own meet record (53.20) and Loyola Marymount’s Kjirsten Magnuson hit a ‘B’ cut (54.90).<\/p>\n

Other impressive Friday swims came in the 100 Fly, with Andrea Ward of UCSB leading a group of three ‘B’ cuts (52.27), as did Karl-Richard Hennebach of Hawaii (47.82). The men’s 400 IM had its top-five swimmers reach ‘B’ status, led by Rafa Alfaro of BYU (3:48.29). UCSB went 1-2 ‘B’ times in the women’s 400 IM, won by Allie Knight (4:16.44), ahead of teammate Heren Alanis (4:16.74).<\/p>\n
