{"id":502154,"date":"2022-04-06T13:00:35","date_gmt":"2022-04-06T20:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=502154"},"modified":"2022-04-06T13:08:28","modified_gmt":"2022-04-06T20:08:28","slug":"adam-peaty-cracks-27-seconds-in-50m-breaststroke-victories-for-guy-wood-greenbank-at-british-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-cracks-27-seconds-in-50m-breaststroke-victories-for-guy-wood-greenbank-at-british-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Adam Peaty Cracks 27 Seconds In 50m Breaststroke; Victories For Guy, Wood &#038; Greenbank At British Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> became the first man this year to go inside 27secs in the 50 breaststroke at the British Championships but there were no further additions to the national team for the June worlds in Budapest.<\/p>\n<p>There were titles for <strong>James Guy<\/strong> \u2013 despite covid in January &#8211; <strong>Abbie Wood<\/strong> and <strong>Luke Greenbank<\/strong> \u2013 all preselected for world titles \u2013 plus <strong>Medi Harris<\/strong>, <strong>Leah Crisp<\/strong> and <strong>Harriet Jones<\/strong> at Ponds Forge.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/results.swimming.org\/swimming\/results\/2022\/bschamps\/\">Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-goes-59-55-in-100-breaststroke-prelims-in-second-meet-since-tokyo-gold\/\">Day 1 heats wrap<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-goes-58-58-to-win-100-breaststroke-at-british-championships-with-paris-in-his-sights\/\">Day 1 finals wrap<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-swims-fastest-50-breaststroke-of-2022-luke-greenbank-misses-100-backstroke-final\/\">Day 2 heats wrap<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tokyo-was-the-start-of-the-journey-for-tom-dean-as-he-lines-up-with-peaty-co-at-british-championships\/\">Tokyo Was \u2018The Start Of The Journey\u2019 For Tom Dean<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Peaty described his return to the water as a \u201ccomeback\u201d given Sheffield is just his second meet since Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>He went 58.58 to win the 100br on Tuesday \u2013 a time eclipsed this year only by Tokyo silver medallist <strong>Arno Kamminga<\/strong> and his 58.52.<\/p>\n<p>It was especially notable given the five-time Olympic medallist has not rested for the meet which is just his second since Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>The three-time Olympic champion went 27.10 in prelims for the fastest time of 2022 and he returned in the evening to crack 27secs in 26.91 ahead of <strong>James Wilby<\/strong> and <strong>Craig Benson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Such are the standards he has set for himself \u2013 and the rest of the world \u2013 Peaty was not so taken by his performance, despite<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s a funny one because I thought it was going to be a lot faster: it felt like a 26.7 really.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAgain I had no idea \u2013 I can count on one hand how many times I\u2019ve done a 50.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I don\u2019t want to be too harsh on myself: 50 is always going to be the hardest one because in January I couldn\u2019t do a 50 breast because the technique wasn\u2019t there, the stamina wasn\u2019t there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe speed is always going to be the one that hurts and the one that suffers really and you\u2019ll see that from many people who come off the Olympics that speed is a little bit harder to get to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis meet is more of a marker. I got covid in January and was out for a couple of weeks and came back in mid jan so time was running out for me with trials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo do that time there &#8211; after eight weeks\u2019 work &#8211; that\u2019s really impressive, it\u2019s great so hopefully I can move it on again in the summer.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The four-time world champion was outside the cut of 1:55.33, prompting a few mixed feelings but also acknowledgment of the effects of a post-Olympic break.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cYes and no. I kind of know where I\u2019m at \u2013 sometimes, just be realistic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know Olympic year was a massive, massive year: everyone knows we had a big break after the Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy dad said to me \u2018son \u2013 tonight, would you take 1:56.5? I feel like when I&#8217;m in a race like \u201cthe 200m free last night, I get carried away with the race and that&#8217;s when I find my best flow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I&#8217;m on my own, I definitely critique every single stroke and probably tear myself apart a bit. It&#8217;s just part of learning, especially in this event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just have to get used to a busy programme.
