But on Friday night at the TYR Pro Series in San Antonio, it was Andrew who got the best of Dressel in the 50-meter freestyle. Racing at the Northside Swim Center, Andrew produced a time of 21.73 to edge Dressel, as the reigning Olympic champion went 21.86.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, athletes are at different points in their training and Dressel is in a stage of heavy work under coach <strong>Anthony Nesty<\/strong>. Still, Andrew had to be pleased with his mark, which complemented a 59-low victory in the 100 breaststroke from the previous night. While Dressel got out to a lead, as is customary, Andrew was able to pull ahead during the latter stages of the race. Teenager <strong>David Curtiss<\/strong>, a freshman at North Carolina State, also went under the 22-second barrier, clocking 21.93.<\/p>\n<p>As is routine for Andrew, he will have multiple decisions to make for the USA Swimming International Team Trials, which are scheduled for later this month in Greensboro. With bids to the World Championships in Budapest on the line, Andrew will need to select a program that maximizes his versatility, but ensures Andrew will not run himself down with a schedule that is too packed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swmeets.com\/Realtime\/Pro%20Series\/2022\/San%20Antonio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Arizona State freshman <strong>Leon Marchand<\/strong>, the individual star of the recent NCAA Championships, delivered a two-second personal best in the 200 breaststroke. The top seed after the morning prelims, the French standout went 2:09.24 to beat <strong>Nic Fink<\/strong> (2:11.67) and give the world another look at his wide-ranging talent. Marchand is among the world&#8217;s elite performers in both individual medley events, along with the 200 butterfly and 200 breaststroke. As he showed at NCAAs, he&#8217;s also a premier freestyler and will have the chance this summer to flash that skill on the global stage.<\/p>\n<p>Coming off a month of training at altitude, <strong>Chase Kalisz<\/strong> opted to bypass the 400 individual medley in San Antonio, the event in which he is the reigning Olympic champion. Instead, the Team USA veteran flourished in the 200 butterfly, clocking 1:56.79 to beat Zach Harting (1:58.95) by more than two seconds.<\/p>\n<p>In his post-race interview on the Olympic Channel, Kalisz noted that he was not entirely pleased with his performance in Tokyo, but indicated he was enjoying the sport as much as ever. That mindset could bode well for a guy who has long been a go-to performer for Team USA and is gearing up for the International Team Trials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shaine Casas<\/strong> backed up his Thursday win in the 100 butterfly with a triumph in the 100 backstroke, a mark of 53.54 getting the job done over <strong>Coleman Stewart<\/strong> (54.43).
