{"id":501753,"date":"2022-03-30T04:54:38","date_gmt":"2022-03-30T11:54:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=501753"},"modified":"2022-03-30T07:20:26","modified_gmt":"2022-03-30T14:20:26","slug":"adam-peaty-entered-into-200m-breaststroke-at-british-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-entered-into-200m-breaststroke-at-british-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Adam Peaty Entered Into 200m Breaststroke At British Championships As Draft Programme Is Published"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The draft programme has been released for next week&#8217;s <strong>British Championships<\/strong> with <strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> lining up in the 200m breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>The six-day meet at <strong>Ponds Forge, Sheffield,<\/strong> runs from 5-11 April and will act as trials for the <strong>World Championships<\/strong> in Budapest in June.<\/p>\n<p>The team will comprise a maximum of 30 swimmers with a maximum of two selections per individual event and one relay team per event.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the second of a two-stage selection policy with the first drawing on performances at Tokyo 2020 where those athletes who achieved a top-six finish in an individual final are selected for Budapest.<\/p>\n<p>If more than one athlete achieved a top-six finish, the highest-placed swimmer is selected to the team for the event, with the other finisher selected to the team only.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, Olympic champion <strong>Tom Dean<\/strong> will be selected to the 200 free with Tokyo silver medallist <strong>Duncan Scott<\/strong> fighting for the remaining place with fellow relay gold medallists <strong>Matt Richards,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>James Guy\u00a0<\/strong>and <strong>Calum Jarvis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Selected for events:<\/p>\n<p>Tom Dean (200 free)<\/p>\n<p>Adam Peaty (100br)<\/p>\n<p>Duncan Scott (200IM)<\/p>\n<p>Kathleen Dawson (100 back)<\/p>\n<p>Abbie Wood (200IM)<\/p>\n<p>Dan Jervis (1500 free)<\/p>\n<p>Luke Greenbank (200 back)<\/p>\n<p>Max Litchfield (400IM)<\/p>\n<p>Ben Proud (50 free)<\/p>\n<p>James Wilby (100 and 200br)<\/p>\n<p>The policy states that relay medal-winners are also selected although this is restricted to swimmers who appeared in the final and not heat swimmers, meaning no preselection for <strong>Freya Anderson<\/strong> or <strong>Calum Jarvis<\/strong> who swam prelims in the victorious mixed medley and men&#8217;s 4&#215;200 relays.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anna Hopkin<\/strong>, Richards and Guy are selected though.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty will compete in all the breaststroke events after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-tom-dean-among-10-on-england-commonwealth-team-mel-marshall-named-head-coach\/\">announcing his intention to take on the four-length race<\/a> in an interview in January.<\/p>\n<p>The three-time Olympic champion had his first outing over 200m since 2016 at the <strong>FFN Golden Tour<\/strong> in Marseille <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/victories-for-florent-manaudou-and-emilien-mattenet-kristyna-horska-claims-double-in-marseille\/\">earlier this month where he finished fourth<\/a> in 2:14.48.<\/p>\n<p>Second that day in 2:11.56 was <strong>Greg Butler<\/strong>, who &#8211;
