MERRIFIELD, Virg., February 22. MASTERS and former University of Iowa swimming star, Frank Havlicek, passed away on February 13 at the age of 83, SwimInfo has learned. Havlicek had been a member of USMS for more than 30 years and was a founder of Ohio Masters swimming. <\/p>\n
His daughter, Jane, sent this message to Frank's many friends:<\/p>\n
"I wanted to let you know that my father, Frank Havlicek, passed away following a valiant struggle with Alzheimer's and Parkinsons'. We had the support of Hospice for this last week, and that made such a
\ndifference. <\/p>\n
"Mother and I have had the chance to say goodbye and we are very grateful. He is in God's hands and at peace.<\/p>\n
"We will not be having a service here. Sometime this summer we will be taking his ashes up to the Boundary Waters area of northern Minnesota, which is what he wanted.<\/p>\n
