NCAA Men’s Championships: Cal Set for Saturday Championship Surge (Heat Sheet)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Texas and Cal are battling for the team title at the NCAA Men’s Championships, and the title will be decided on the final day. The Golden Bears are set for a huge final day as the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly will be contested.<\/p>\n

Cal is seeded 1-2 in the first event of the day, the 200 back. Sophomore\u00a0Destin Lasco<\/strong> finished second to\u00a0Shaine Casas<\/strong> last season, and he is the top seed in the event, while fifth-year swimmer Daniel Carr<\/strong> is seeded second and fellow fifth-year (and U.S. Olympian) Bryce Mefford<\/strong> enters in fifth.\u00a0Carson Foster<\/strong> should be in contention for Texas.<\/p>\n

In the men’s 100 free, LSU’s\u00a0Brooks Curry<\/strong> is favored to add a title to his earlier win in the 50 free, and he will have to fend off a field including the Texas duo of\u00a0Danny Krueger<\/strong> and\u00a0Drew Kibler<\/strong>. In the 200 breast,\u00a0Max McHugh<\/strong> will seek to complete the breaststroke double for the second straight year after his triumph in the 100 breast Friday, and his competition includes Penn freshman\u00a0Matt Fallon<\/strong>, Texas’ Caspar Corbeau<\/strong>, Arizona State’s Leon Marchand<\/strong> and the Cal duo of Reece Whitley<\/strong> and\u00a0Hugo Gonzalez<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The 200 fly could be one of the top races of the meet with defending champion\u00a0Nick Albiero<\/strong> of Louisville entering as the top seed ahead of Georgia’s\u00a0Luca Urlando<\/strong> and Cal’s\u00a0Trenton Julian<\/strong>. Georgia’s\u00a0Matt Sates<\/strong> will swim his first non-freestyle event of the week here as well.<\/p>\n
