NCAA Men’s Championships: Five Individual Events Friday Morning (Heat Sheet)<\/strong><\/p>\n

After an exciting Thursday evening finals session at the NCAA Men’s Championships in Atlanta, competition will resume Friday morning with qualifying heats in the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke. All three individual winners from Thursday, Georgia’s\u00a0Matt Sates<\/strong>,\u00a0Arizona State’s\u00a0Leon Marchand<\/strong> and LSU’s\u00a0Brooks Curry<\/strong>, will be in action once again.<\/p>\n

The day will open with the 400 IM, where Marchand will be chasing\u00a0Chase Kalisz’s<\/strong> NCAA and U.S. Open records while hoping to fend off Texas sophomore\u00a0Carson Foster<\/strong>. Meanwhile, defending NCAA champion\u00a0Bobby Finke<\/strong> will be racing in the first heat as the last seed in the event, but he will undoubtedly be in the mix for the A-final.<\/p>\n

Stanford’s\u00a0Andrei Minakov<\/strong> is the top seed in the 100 fly, and he’s followed by Virginia Tech’s\u00a0Youssef Ramadan<\/strong> and Georgia’s\u00a0Luca Urlando<\/strong>. Urlando was impressive in placing third in the 200 IM final Thursday, and he is much better in the butterfly races. The 200 free, meanwhile, will see top seed\u00a0Grant House<\/strong> of Arizona State, defending champion\u00a0Kieran Smith<\/strong> of Florida and 2021 runnerup\u00a0Drew Kibler<\/strong> of Texas all aiming to hold off Sates after his incredible performance in the 500 free final.<\/p>\n

Minnesota’s\u00a0Max McHugh<\/strong> should be in the drivers’ seat to win a second consecutive national title in the 100 breast, while the 100 back features a long list of contenders, with top seed Brendan Burns<\/strong> of Indiana leading the way. Cal’s\u00a0Bjorn Seeliger<\/strong>, NC State’s\u00a0Kacper Stokowski<\/strong> and Florida’s\u00a0Adam Chaney<\/strong> all swam historic performances leading off their teams’ 200 medley relays on Wednesday, while another Cal Bear,\u00a0Destin Lasco<\/strong>, posted an impressive performance for second place in Thursday’s 200 IM.<\/p>\n
