FOUR meet records fell during the second night of competition at the Sunshine State Conference Championships in Orlando, along with three NCAA automatic qualifying times. Tampa climbed into first in the women&#8217;s team standings with 356 points, followed by Florida Southern (298) and Nova Southeastern (256). Meanwhile, the Florida Southern men made a surge to take over the lead with 367 points. Tampa is now second with 319 points while Nova Southeastern is third (290).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunshine State Conference Press Release<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A total of four conference championship meet records were broken on day two of the 2014 SSC Swimming Championship. The second day of the event also saw three NCAA automatic qualifying times and 63 NCAA provisional qualifying times during the evening finals.<\/p>\n<p>Through 14 events the women\u2019s standings are as follows: 1. Tampa (356 points), 2. Florida Southern (298 points), 3. Nova Southeastern (256 points), 4. Florida Tech (163 points), 5. Saint Leo (149 points), 6. Rollins (136 points), 7. Lynn (106 points).<\/p>\n<p>Through 14 events the men\u2019s standings are as follows: 1. Florida Southern (367points), 2. Tampa (319 points), 3. Nova Southeastern (290 points), 4. Florida Tech (166 points), 5. Saint Leo (122 points), 6. Rollins (104 points).<\/p>\n<p>Tampa\u2019s men\u2019s 200-yard Freestyle Relay team set a new conference championship meet record and the overall conference record on Thursday. Khalid Aldaboos, Jeremy Parker, Runar Borgen and Jordan Augier finished the race in a time of 1:20.26 for gold. The previous conference championship meet record was set at last year\u2019s championship by Tampa with a time of 1:20.83.<\/p>\n<p>Saint Leo\u2019s A-relay team took silver in a time of 1:20.68, which was also better than the original meet record, while Florida Southern took bronze. Five of the six A-relay teams finished with NCAA provisional times.<\/p>\n<p>Both the women\u2019s and men\u2019s 50-yard freestyle races saw new meet records. Florida Southern\u2019s Kelsey Gouge won gold and beat her own previous meet record of 23.32 seconds from 2013. On Thursday, Gouge won the race in a time of 23.05 seconds for a new meet record and a NCAA automatic qualifying time.<\/p>\n<p>Saint Leo\u2019s Matheus Assis broke is own meet record as well as his own overall conference record in the men\u2019s 50-yard freestyle final. Assis recorded his second NCAA automatic qualifying time in the event by winning gold in a time of 19.95 seconds. His previous record was 20.02 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s 50-yard freestyle championship finals saw an NCAA automatic qualifier and seven provisional times, while the consolation final also saw seven provisional times.<\/p>\n<p>In the final race of the evening, Tampa\u2019s 400-yard medley relay team, consisting of Karl Burdis, Philip Nordenberg, Runar Borgen and Jeremy Parker, broke the meet record and won gold with a time of 3:14.33. Florida Southern set the previous meet record in 2012 with a time of 3:15.49. Borgen and Parker were part of both of Tampa\u2019s record-breaking relay teams Thursday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Florida Southern\u2019s Alli Crenshaw earned an NCAA automatic qualifier in the women\u2019s 500-yard freestyle final.
