It is easy to see how dominant\u00a0Kate Douglass<\/strong>\u00a0has become in the sport of swimming. Three American records in three individual races at the NCAA Championships is easy for people to wrap their heads around.<\/p>\n

What is difficult to wrap their heads around is the variety of events those records and championships came in.<\/p>\n

Many dominant swimmers have had three titles, and even three records, in one meet.<\/p>\n

The Week That Was #2: 2022 NCAA Division III Championships: Kenyon Wins Down-to-the-Wire Women\u2019s Title<\/h3>\n

Kenyon\u2019s women\u2019s swim team needed to finish no worse than sixth in the final of the 400 freestyle relay to win the 2022 NCAA Division III Championships. It got that done with a little room to spare.<\/p>\n

The team of\u00a0Alexandra White, Sydney Geboy, Crile Hart<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Emmie Mirus<\/strong>\u00a0finished third, capping a pair of event wins earlier in the night as the Ladies held on in a tight team race.<\/p>\n

Denison had surged to the lead behind three swimmers in the top five of the 1,650 freestyle. But wins by Mirus in the 100 free and Hart in the 200 back seized control for Kenyon on the way to their record-setting 24th crown.<\/p>\n

The Week That Was #3: 2022 NCAA Women\u2019s Championships Day 2 Finals: Lia Thomas Wins 500 Freestyle \u2018It Means the World\u2019<\/h3>\n

Penn swimmer\u00a0Lia Thomas<\/strong>\u00a0became the first known transgender athlete to win an NCAA Division I championship on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Thomas won the 500-yard freestyle at the 2022 NCAA Women\u2019s Division I Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta.<\/p>\n

It was a close race throughout with\u00a0Erica Sullivan, Emma Weyant<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Brooke Forde<\/strong>\u00a0all making moves. But Thomas pulled away and on in 4:33.24.<\/p>\n

PBS has produced a feature documentary titled, \u201cAmerican Masters: Waterman \u2014 Duke: Ambassador of Aloha,\u201d a new look at a groundbreaking figure in American swimming.<\/p>\n

The documentary is narrated by\u00a0Jason Momoa.<\/strong>\u00a0It features rare archival footage and interviews with world famous surfers\u00a0Laird Hamilton, Kelly Slater<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Carissa Moore<\/strong>\u00a0as well as musician\u00a0Jack Johnson.<\/strong>\u00a0It will premiere May 10 at 9 p.m.<\/p>\n

The Week That Was #5: Campbell Stoll, Scott Buff Double At NCSA Champs; Nate Germonprez Adds Third Title<\/h3>\n

Make it three titles for\u00a0Nate Germonprez<\/strong>\u00a0at the National Club Swimming Association Championships (NCSA<\/a>), as the\u00a0Texas recruit<\/a>\u00a0took gold on Saturday night in the 200-yard individual medley. Germonprez posted a time of 1:44.58 to finish more than a second clear of\u00a0Josh<\/strong>\u00a0Zuchowski<\/strong>, who checked in with a swim of 1:45.92.<\/p>\n

Germonprez, who is among the top recruits in the country in the Class of 2023, placed first in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke earlier in the meet. Once he arrives at Texas, he figures to step into the lineup for the Longhorns as the replacement to\u00a0Caspar Corbeau<\/strong>. Texas and Corbeau are currently preparing for next week\u2019s NCAA Men\u2019s Championships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
