GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado, February 19. CALIFORNIA Baptist’s Mary Hanson posted an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying time, school record, pool record and conference record in the 50 free as the Cal Baptist women jumped out to an early lead during the first day of racing at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships in Grand Junction, Colo. Cal Baptist leads the women’s meet with 214 points, followed by host Colorado Mesa in second (190) and Adams State in third (121). On the men’s side, Colorado Mesa leads with 286 points, with Cal Baptist (249) and Colorado School of Mines (176) in second and third.<\/p>\n

Championship competition is underway for the Lancer swim and dive teams as they are off to a solid start in their first-ever Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship, hosted by Colorado Mesa.<\/p>\n

After the first day of competition, the Lancer women sit in first place with 214 points over Colorado Mesa, Adams State, Colorado School of Mines, and Western State Colorado.<\/p>\n

The CBU men stand in second place with 249 points with Colorado Mesa in the lead and Colorado School of Mines and Adams State in third and fourth, respectively.<\/p>\n

The highlight for the first day of the four-day meet is Mary Hanson\u2019s impressive, NCAA Division-II \u2018A\u2019 category qualifying time of 22.98 in the 50-yard freestyle. Her time not only qualified her for nationals in March, but also broke the CBU program record, CMU pool record, and the RMAC record.<\/p>\n

Freshman, Courtney Chacon started her championship events off with a considerable first-place finish in the 1000 free with her season-best time of 10:13.09\u2014one second shy of the RMAC record.<\/p>\n

Yosita Hapsari grabbed second in the 200 individual medley, finishing in a season-best time of 2:03.69. Kylie Mihld and Kyndal Terwilliger both recorded \u2018B\u2019 qualifying times of 2:06.68 and 2:06.77, respectively, in the event.<\/p>\n

Hanson, Alena Rumientceva, Kristina Tchernyshev, and Hailey Golden added to the Lancer victories by breaking the CBU school record, CMU pool record, and the RMAC record in the 200-yard medley relay with their official time of 1:43.65\u2014just shy of the \u2018A\u2019 standard.<\/p>\n

The women\u2019s 200-yard medley relay \u201cB\u201d team also grabbed first in the second heat of the event clocking in at 1:49.42 to add to the Lancers\u2019 scoring.<\/p>\n

Along with his sister Mary, Josh Hanson broke a CBU school record, CMU pool record, and RMAC record in the 200 individual medley in the preliminary round, clocking in at 1:47.47\u2014one-tenth away from the \u2018A\u2019 standard time. Hanson placed first in the final round of the 200 IM finishing in 1:48.91.<\/p>\n

David Ring posted a season-best time and \u2018B\u2019 qualifying time of 20.85 in the 50 free for a close third-place finish. Jeremy Hayes (20.94) and Brent Teraoka (21.04) added season-best times, as well as \u2018B\u2019 standard times in the event.<\/p>\n

Elijah Barrows grabbed third place in the 1000 free with a final time of 9:25.19\u2014his season-best and a \u2018B\u2019 standard. Derek Wedel followed close behind Barrows throughout the race for his season-best, \u2018B\u2019 qualifying time of 9:29.56 and fourth-place finish overall.<\/p>\n

On the 3-meter diving board, Andrew Rotundo scored an impressive 410.60 for a third-place grab and added 16 points to the team scoring.<\/p>\n

The Lancers head into day two of the meet with the 200 free relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, women\u2019s 1-meter dive, and the 400 medley relay on the schedule.<\/p>\n

Finals begin at 5 p.m. MST and are being live streamed at AmericaOneSports. Live results can also be found on the Meet Mobile App under 2013 RMAC Championships.<\/p>\n

Colorado Mesa Press Release<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Colorado Mesa swimming and diving teams made a strong opening statement winning four events on the first day of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships Wednesday (Feb. 19).<\/p>\n

Freshman Jarren Brinton won the 1,000 and earned an NCAA B qualifying time of 9:31.67. Teammate Tyler Kaslik finished second and also swam a B qualifying time of 9:35.18. Garrett Koehler finished eighth (9:56.32).<\/p>\n

The Mavericks placed four men in the final of the 50 free with each earning a B qualifying time. Kent Olsen-Stavrakas won in 20.14, and Justin Hastings was second (20.73). Josh Scheuermann was fourth (20.90), and Peter Szekely was sixth (21.00).<\/p>\n

Senior Brock Martin won the 3-meter diving event with a score of 520.45, and teammate Ryan Popp was second with a mark of 419.85.<\/p>\n

Brianna Purkapile won the women’s 200 individual medley with a time of 2:04.63.<\/p>\n

The Mavericks enjoyed several other All-RMAC performances on the night. In the women’s 1,000 Maddy Wigg finished fourth (10:52.01) followed by Abi Young in fifth (10:53.14) and Katherine Gerstmar in sixth (10:57.86).<\/p>\n

CMU put three men in the final of the 200 individual medley. Zach Andregg was second (1:52.96), Rob Eisendrath fourth (1:52.23) and Shaun Seuschek seventh (1:54.79).<\/p>\n

Sam Parker and Eryn Leonard tied for fourth in the 50 free (24.42), and Olivia Bobillier was sixth (24.44).<\/p>\n

Mesa finished the night with strong swims in the 200 medley relays. The men’s team of Justin Hastings, Thomas Stutzriem, Tyler<\/p>\n

Kaslik and Kent Olsen-Stavrakas finishes second with a B qualifying time of 1:30.70.<\/p>\n

The women’s team of Brianna Bearden, Katie Thompson, Katie Olson and Samantha Parker finished fourth (1:51.54).<\/p>\n

The men’s team leads California Baptist by 37 points in the team standings.<\/p>\n

The women sit in second 24 points behind California Baptist.<\/p>\n
