NC State\u2019s<strong> Sophie Hansson<\/strong> is the defending NCAA Champion in the event but qualified fourth, opening up a lot of possibilities. Texas\u2019 <strong>Anna Elendt<\/strong> went a 56.88 to beat Hansson head-to-head to take the top overall seed. USC\u2019s Pac-12 champion <strong>Kaitlyn Dobler<\/strong> took the second seeding 57.55 after winning her heat. Virginia senior <strong>Alexis Wenger<\/strong> took the third spot in 57.67 ahead of Hansson (57.71). It was a big event for Northwestern as the Wildcats earned two finals spots.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2022-ncaa-college-swimming-championships-women-di\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Full coverage<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/swimmeetresults.tech\/NCAA-Division-I-Women-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Live results<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The NCAA finals race<\/strong> \u2026\u00a0 <strong>Alexis Wenger<\/strong> turned first in 26.66 just ahead of the rest of the field that was nearly even. But quick stroke work in the final 25 gave<strong> Kaitlyn Dobler<\/strong> the title in 56.93. Wenger took second in 56.97.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am so happy, especially after finishing second last year. It was my goal this year,&#8221; Dobler said. &#8220;It means a lot. Pretty much all year since I touched second I had that goal to come back and get first. To be honest, I thought I was going to get second based on where I was on the last wall, but I put my head down, and my coach really talked about how our teammates help will us to the wall and I truly believe that&#8217;s the reason I got first.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It has been a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usc-swims-through-adversity-on-road-to-ncaa-champs-this-is-only-the-beginning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trying yet stunningly successful season<\/a> for the Dobler and the Trojans.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was out with Mono for two weeks and I got a greater appreciation for swimming in general, not just winning,&#8221; Dobler said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sophie Hansson<\/strong> was third in 57.01, holding off Tennessee sophomore <strong>Mona McSharry,<\/strong> who touched the wall in 57.18. Texas sophomore<strong> Anna Elendt,<\/strong> who had the top seed in prelims, finished fifth in 57.24, just ahead of Ohio State&#8217;s <strong>Hannah Bach<\/strong> (57.32).
