Tonight, I just wanted to focus on racing and upping my rate. I put my head down that last 25 and focused on racing to the wall.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The setup<\/strong> &#8230; Coming into the meet, it looked like a three-way showdown between NCAA and Olympic champion <strong>Maggie Mac Neil<\/strong> of Michigan, Stanford freshman Olympian and long-course American record holder<strong> Torri Huske<\/strong> and Virginia\u2019s<strong> Kate Douglass<\/strong>, who was runner-up last year to Mac Neil, who broke the NCAA record with a 48.89.<\/p>\n<p>The prelims added some more layers to the mix as Tennessee\u2019s<strong> Ellen Walshe<\/strong> took the third seed in her second event of the day after also taking the third seed in the 400 IM, an incredible double performance of back-to-back events. <strong>Emma Sticklen<\/strong> was also faster than Mac Neil in the prelims, while Louisville\u2019s <strong>Gabi Albiero<\/strong> had a great swim to sneak into the finals with<strong> Kylee Alons<\/strong> and <strong>Olivia Bray<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In short, a loaded field.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2022-ncaa-college-swimming-championships-women-di\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Full coverage<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/swimmeetresults.tech\/NCAA-Division-I-Women-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Live results<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The race<\/strong> &#8230; Huske led after 50 yards but Mac Neil touched first at the 75 mark and had the lead heading into the final 10 yards.<\/p>\n<p>But <strong>Kate Douglass<\/strong> used a smooth finish to pass both swimmers who finished with long stroke touches, and touch first in 49.04, winning her second individual NCAA title of the meet and setting her second American record.<\/p>\n<p>Huske finished second in 49.17 and Mac Neil, who needed a longer stroke to get to the wall finished third in 49.18. Huske was also under the previous American record set by <strong>Claire Curzan <\/strong>(49.24).<\/p>\n<p>Texas sophomore<strong> Emma Sticklen<\/strong> was fourth in 40.29, followed by NC State&#8217;s<strong> Kylee Alons<\/strong> (50.64), Louisville&#8217;s<strong> Gabi Albiero<\/strong> (50.88), Texas<strong>&#8216;
