The Day 3 finals session of the 2022 NCAA Women\u2019s Division I Swimming and Diving Championships continued from the McAuley Aquatic Center at Georgia Tech with the 100 butterfly and some how, some way, Kate Douglass<\/strong> got it done again with another American record.<\/p>\n

“I honestly didn’t even know it was that close until I rewatched the race,” Douglass said. “This morning, I was focusing on my underwaters and my stroke count. Tonight, I just wanted to focus on racing and upping my rate. I put my head down that last 25 and focused on racing to the wall.”<\/p>\n

The setup<\/strong> … Coming into the meet, it looked like a three-way showdown between NCAA and Olympic champion Maggie Mac Neil<\/strong> of Michigan, Stanford freshman Olympian and long-course American record holder Torri Huske<\/strong> and Virginia\u2019s Kate Douglass<\/strong>, who was runner-up last year to Mac Neil, who broke the NCAA record with a 48.89.<\/p>\n

The prelims added some more layers to the mix as Tennessee\u2019s Ellen Walshe<\/strong> took the third seed in her second event of the day after also taking the third seed in the 400 IM, an incredible double performance of back-to-back events. Emma Sticklen<\/strong> was also faster than Mac Neil in the prelims, while Louisville\u2019s Gabi Albiero<\/strong> had a great swim to sneak into the finals with Kylee Alons<\/strong> and Olivia Bray<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In short, a loaded field.<\/p>\n
