NCAA Women’s Championships: Five Individual Finals Plus 400 Medley Relay on Friday Night (Heat Sheet)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Friday night finals session of the NCAA Women’s Championships in Atlanta will see champions decided in the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke before three-meter diving and the 400 medley relay conclude the session. The University of Virginia will have the top seed in two of the individual races along with the medley relay after a dominant Thursday night saw the Cavaliers open up an 82-point lead.<\/p>\n

Virginia’s\u00a0Alex Walsh\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Emma Weyant<\/strong> will swim in lanes four and five, respectively, in the 400 IM, while defending champion\u00a0Brooke Forde<\/strong> of Stanford will be in lane six. The 100 fly features 50 freestyle winner and American-record-setter\u00a0Kate Douglass\u00a0<\/strong>in lane four with Stanford’s\u00a0Torri Huske<\/strong> next to her in lane five, while defending champion and 100-meter fly Olympic champion\u00a0Maggie Mac Neil<\/strong> looms from lane two.<\/p>\n

In the women’s 200 freestyle, Cal’s\u00a0Isabel Ivey<\/strong>, Stanford’s\u00a0Taylor Ruck<\/strong> and Penn’s\u00a0Lia Thomas<\/strong> will swim in lanes three, four and five, respectively, in what is likely to be a three-woman race for the title. Texas’\u00a0Anna Elendt<\/strong> was the surprising top seed in the women’s 100 breast ahead of USC’s\u00a0Kaitlyn Dobler<\/strong>, while defending champion\u00a0Sophie Hansson<\/strong> swims in lane six.<\/p>\n

Finally, the trio of\u00a0Gretchen Walsh<\/strong>,\u00a0Regan Smith<\/strong> and\u00a0Katharine Berkoff<\/strong> will line up in lanes three, four and five for the 100 back final after all three broke 50 in the prelims. The fastest heat of the 400 medley relay, meanwhile, will have Virginia as a heavy favorite after the Cavaliers smashed the American and NCAA records in the event last month. Gretchen Walsh,\u00a0Alexis Wenger<\/strong>,\u00a0Alex Walsh and Douglass are expected to again be the UVA quarter.<\/p>\n
