NCAA Women’s Championships: Day Three Prelims to Set Up Intense Friday Night (Heat Sheet)<\/strong><\/p>\n

After Virginia won all four swimming titles on Thursday night at the NCAA Women’s Championships, the swimmers will return to the pool Friday morning for a prelims session that features five individual events, the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke. Qualifying for three-meter springboard diving will follow after the session.<\/p>\n

In the 400 IM, defending champion\u00a0Brooke Forde<\/strong> of Stanford will be the top seed, but she will be challenged by 200 IM winner and American-record-setter\u00a0Alex Walsh<\/strong> of Virginia. The event also features Cavaliers\u00a0Emma Weyant<\/strong>, the Olympic silver medalist in the 400-meter IM, and\u00a0Ella Nelson<\/strong>, last year’s NCAA runnerup.<\/p>\n

The top three swimmers in the 100 fly are all seeded under 50 seconds and swimming in separate heats: Stanford’s\u00a0Torri Huske<\/strong>, Michigan’s\u00a0Maggie Mac Neil<\/strong> and Virginia’s\u00a0Kate Douglass<\/strong>. Penn’s\u00a0Lia Thomas<\/strong> will return to the pool for the 200 free, where she is the top seed, but Cal’s\u00a0Isabel Ivey<\/strong> now owns the top time in the country after an impressive 800 free relay leadoff leg Wednesday.<\/p>\n

NC State swimmers are the defending champions in the day’s final two events, the 100 breast and 100 back.\u00a0Sophie Hansson<\/strong> is seeded on top of the 100 breast field ahead of\u00a0Alexis Wenger<\/strong>,\u00a0Kaitlyn Dobler<\/strong> and\u00a0Anna Elendt<\/strong>. In the 100 back, however,\u00a0Katharine Berkoff<\/strong> is seeded just behind American-record holder\u00a0Regan Smith<\/strong>, while Virginia’s\u00a0Gretchen Walsh<\/strong> has also been under 50 this season.<\/p>\n

The session will begin at 10 a.m. ET, and three-meter diving will commence at 12:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
