The Cavaliers are the defending NCAA champions and have been swimming extremely well all year.

Kate Douglass broke the NCAA and American record in the 50 freestyle, but more importantly for Virginia, teammate Gretchen Walsh took the second seed, putting two in the finals for the Cavaliers. If they can go 1-2 it would be huge as the team looks to hold off Stanford and the rest of the field. Meanwhile, Alex Walsh took the top seed in the 200 IM, another big point possibility for Virginia.

The Cavaliers have eight swimmers back, double the next highest total by another team. Virginia will send five to the finals and three to the consolation finals. Based on seeds, the Cavaliers have gained 25 points from what the psych sheet times were, which could be a huge boost if the seeds hold.

Alabama is second on the list for the day with three headed to the finals and one headed to the consolation finals.

Texas and Stanford also have three in the finals, while NC State has two. Georgia has three total swimmers with one up and two down, while Tennessee and Ohio State both landed three swimmers down in consolation finals.

Heading into diving there are 23 schools sending at least one athlete to the finals session.

• <a href="https://www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/meet/2022-ncaa-college-swimming-championships-women-di" target="_blank"
