CLEVELAND, Miss., Feb. 17. THE Delta State University men\u2019s Swimming and Diving team capture its third straight New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference title last weekend at the DSU Aquatic Center. <\/p>\n
DSU Scored 866 points to claim its fifth conference crown in school history. Ouachita Baptist was second with 750.5 and Henderson State was third with 520 points. New member Tampa placed fourth with 509 points followed by McMurry, Spring Hill College and Centenary College. <\/p>\n
The University of Tampa claimed its first women\u2019s crown with 726 points, edging out Ouachita Baptist with 690. The Lady Statesmen followed in third with 554 points. Henderson Sate, McMurry, Spring Hill, Centenary and Incarnate Word round out the remaining places. <\/p>\n
DSU's Samantha Everett totaled a team record 324.10 points to win the women\u2019s 1 meter diving. Sean Spiegel (421.35) edge out fellow teammate and defending conference champion Patrick Krebs (404.35) to win the men\u2019s 1 meter diving. Spiegel and Krebs finished first and second in the men\u2019s 3-meter diving, qualifying for the national meet with scores of 474.95 and 467.90 respectively. <\/p>\n
DSU's Ashley Droke and Nilay Aydin (5:19.78) finished second and third in the women\u2019s 500-freestyle. Droke (11:08.23) was also the runner-up in the 1000-freestyle. <\/p>\n
Trip Davis swam an NCAA A-cut 4:33.76 to win the men\u2019s 500-freestyle and posted another B-Cut time of 1:41.76 to win the men\u2019s 200-freestyle. Derrick McDonnell was the runner-up in the men\u2019s 200-freestyle, registering a NCAA B-Cut, 1:42.93. Brian Shaw posted an NCAA B-cut in the preliminaries with a 1:43.90 in the 200-freestyle Jwhile ared Woodford was the runner-up in the 500 with a time of 4:37.86. <\/p>\n
Justin Whitaker won the men\u2019s 200-individual medley with an NCAA B-cut time of 1:54.74 and had a 49.94 to capture the men\u2019s 100-backstroke crown. Cagri Sapmaz (51.84) was the runner-up in the men\u2019s 100-backstroke. Whitaker (1:53.18) and Sapmaz (1:54.27) were one-two in the 200-back. <\/p>\n
The team of Jared Woodford, Brian Shaw, McDonnell and Davis won the 800-freestyle relay, setting a new NSISC and DSU mark with an NCAA A-cut swim of 6:52.46. <\/p>\n
