CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, February 16. THE second day of a rescheduled Bluegrass Mountain Conference championships featured a truckload of new meet records. Inclement weather had forced day one to a timed final format, with another set of normal championship format events on day two.<\/p>\n

After day two, the Wingate women lead the team standings with 976.5 points with Queens (872.5) and Johns Hopkins (851.5) battling for second and third. Queens’ men are in a tussle with Wingate for the men’s title, 978.5 to 951.5, while Johns Hopkins is third with 647.5 points.<\/p>\n

Johns Hopkins’ Taylor Kitayama, Pilar Shimizu, Kylie Holden and Kylie Ternes opened the second day with a meet record time of 1:42.24 in the 200-yard medley relay with Queens of Charlotte’s Hannah Peiffer, Emma Durante, Maddy Wallmon and Alexandra Marshall taking a close second in 1:42.53.<\/p>\n

Matt Josa then did what he has been doing all year and that is help lead Queens of Charlotte to some amazing times. He, along with Nic Eriksson, Evante Gibson and Hayden Kosater, posted a 1:27.60 in the men’s 200-yard medley relay to easily surpass the previous mark. That swim just missed Florida Southern’s NCAA Division II record of 1:27.21 from last year.<\/p>\n

Queens’ Caroline Arakelian, a day after posting a meet record in the 200 IM with a 2:01.61, surged to another meet mark of 4:19.22 in the women’s 400-yard IM. She had set the mark originally in prelims with a 4:21.93 before crushing that time at night. Wingate’s Marko Blazevski locked down a meet record in the men’s 400-meter IM with a time of 3:55.39, as he smoked the previous record of 3:56.19 set by Ossian Arvidsson a year ago.<\/p>\n

Queens’ Peiffer raced her way to another meet mark with a 53.95 in the women’s 100-yard fly. That swim beat her preliminary mark of 54.52 as she continued piling on the points for the host team. Josa then kept up the Queens momentum with a blistering 46.60 in the men’s 100-yard fly, eclipsing his preliminary swim o f47.88. Josa already set the 200 back NCAA Division II record earlier this season with a 1:43.03 in Knoxville, and is just a second off Ben Michaelson’s 45.60 in the 100 fly from well back in 2003.<\/p>\n

Johns Hopkins battled back a bit with Anastasia Bogdanovski taking down the women’s 200-yard free record with a 1:49.16, while Wingate’s Leif-Henning Kluever picked up the men’s 200-yard freestyle triumph in a time of 1:38.34.<\/p>\n

Wingate had a strong outing in the women’s 100-yard breast with 1:03.30 from Jessika Weiss fo rthe win. Olga Kosheleva took second in 1:03.76, while Charlotte Cornet took fourth for Wingate with a 1:05.90. Queens’ Durante split the difference with a third-place 1:04.07. Queens’ Nic Eriksson rolled through the men’s 100-yard breaststroke finale with a time of 53.45 for the win.<\/p>\n

Peiffer followed her meet record in the 100 fly with another meet mark as she dropped a 53.82 in the 100-yard back. Dima Turkin of Pfeiffer then took home the men’s 100-yard backstroke title in 48.80.<\/p>\n

The 800 free relays closed out the night. Johns Hopkins claimed another meet record and relay title as Sara Rinsma, Kitayama, Samantha Fox and Bogdanovski touched in 7:23.72 to demolish the rest of the championship field. Queens’ Josa, Ben Taylor, Felipe Oliveira and Kosater then closed out the night with a sterling 6:34.34 to blast the men’s 800-yard free relay meet record.<\/p>\n
