No cause of death or confirmed date of Benveniste\u2019s passing is listed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On behalf of Azusa Pacific University, the athletics department, and swim &amp; dive program, our thoughts and prayers are with the Benveniste family following the tragic death of their daughter Sydney,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/athletics.apu.edu\/news\/2022\/3\/2\/womens-swimming-and-diving-azusa-pacific-mourns-the-loss-of-sydney-benveniste.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">read the statement<\/a> by APU Director of Athletics<strong> Gary Pine.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Benveniste <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redlandsdailyfacts.com\/2022\/03\/03\/azusa-pacific-swimmer-rev-graduate-sydney-benveniste-dies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was a native of Redlands, Calif.<\/a>, and a graduate of Redlands East Valley High. She qualified for junior nationals in 2015 as a member of Piranha Swim Team in Loma Linda and helped REV finish second in the 2018 CIF-SS Division 2 finals. She <a href=\"https:\/\/athletics.apu.edu\/sports\/womens-swimming-and-diving\/roster\/sydney-benveniste\/12491\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">competed for the Cougars<\/a> in 2019-20 as a freshman, appearing in eight meets. She redshirted in 2020-21.<\/p>\n<p>Benveniste does not appear to have competed for Azusa Pacific in a meet since <a href=\"https:\/\/athletics.apu.edu\/documents\/2021\/11\/22\/2021_results_lv_winter_invite.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the La Verne Winter Invitational<\/a> in November. She did not swim at the recent Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral arrangements and a full obituary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legacy.com\/us\/obituaries\/name\/sydney-benveniste-obituary?id=33499239\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">have not yet been published<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Benveniste\u2019s death was announced on Wednesday, the same day that Stanford soccer player <strong>Katie Meyer<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/katie-meyers-stanford-parents-speak-out-about-her-death-we-had-no-red-flags-152957027.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was found dead<\/a>, a story the gained national attention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Passages: Azusa Pacific Sophomore Swimmer Sydney Benveniste Sydney Benveniste, a sophomore on Azusa Pacific\u2019s women\u2019s swimming and diving team, died this week.
