That gives him back-to-back Big Ten Swimmer of the Championship honors and six career individual Big Ten titles. Teammate <strong>Andrew Capobianco<\/strong> earned consecutive Diver of the Championship nods, with Capobianco completing the diving sweep with a platform title Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>Both standouts added a team title to their ledger, the first for the Hoosiers since 2019 and fourth in six years. He entered as the second seed. It was the third seed that pushed him. That was 500 free champ <strong>Jacob Newmark<\/strong> of Wisconsin, who led by three tenths at 150 yards before Burns closed in 25.47 to nip him by .16. But he still had enough speed to win in 41.78 seconds, leading a Buckeye parade to the wall.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio State swept the top three spots. <strong>Ruslan Gaziev<\/strong> brought the outside smoke to rise from eighth in prelims to second in finals in 42.07. He was a tenth up on teammate <strong>Sem Andreis,<\/strong> the second seed in the morning. McHugh went 1:49.45 Saturday to win the event in which he\u2019s the reigning NCAA champion. He also completes the breaststroke double for the second straight year.<\/p>\n<p>In the process, he destroyed the pool record (<strong>Marat Amaltdinov<\/strong>, 2016) by more than three seconds and trimmed .85 off the meet record, held since 2019 by Indiana\u2019s <strong>Ian Finnerty<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana\u2019s latest breaststroke star, <strong>Josh Matheny,<\/strong> finished second in 1:50.65. Ahead by the halfway point, Burns pulled away, working a 25.59 third 50 to push past <strong>Gal Groumi<\/strong> and win in 1:39.81. The time is a pool record, six tenths slower than his time from last year. It\u2019s also an NCAA A cut.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan\u2019s Groumi finished second in 1:40.59, followed by 100 fly champ <strong>Alex Quach<\/strong> in 1:41.81. This one was fairly comfortable, though he wasn\u2019t the top seed out of prelims, sitting in fifth. He left no doubt in the final, scoring 469.90 points to win by 26 points.<\/p>\n<p>The future is bright, though, with four freshmen in the top eight and five in the top 10, led by Purdue\u2019s <strong>Jordan Rzepka.<\/strong> His 443.10 edged fellow rookie <strong>Carson Tyler<\/strong> of Indiana by just over two points. It\u2019s not a surprise that the team producing the top three finishers in the individual event and then adding 100 fly champ <strong>Alex Quach<\/strong> would win this relay. But Indiana gave the Buckeyes a push, coming within eight tenths of the upset.<\/p>\n<p>Armstrong set the Buckeyes into clean water with a leadoff 41.60, just .06 off the time he set in the morning and shy of the individual Big Ten Championships record. The squad of Armstrong, <strong>Sem Andreis,<\/strong> Quach and <strong>Ruslan Gaziev<\/strong> did down the meet mark, though, in 2:47.16, more than a second quicker than Indiana\u2019s 2017 time.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana was also under the record, finishing second in 2:47.96, also an A cut.
