In the 200 fly, likely the weakest event for the national-title favorite Longhorns, it was West Virginia’s David Dixon who took the win in 1:43.64. Dixon was eight tenths behind Texas’ Coby Carrozza with 50 yards to go, but he finished in a blistering 27.33 split to secure the win. Carrozza took second in 1:44.15, while TCU’s Piotr Sadlowski took third in 1:47.49.

However, the fastest time of the night did belong to a Texas swimmer. Sam Artmann, swimming in the B-final since he was entered in the meet as an exhibition swimmer, recorded a time of 1:42.12, a second-and-a-half quicker than Dixon’s winning time.
