Connery recorded a time of 45.61 to beat Jiang (45.69) by eight hundredths. Connery was just off his lifetime-best mark of 45.56 set in prelims. Foster recorded a performance of 3:37.72, well under his own meet record of 3:40.22 set last season. Foster currently ranks as the second-fastest performer in the nation, with his season best of 3:37.35 from December trailing only Arizona State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Leon Marchand\u00a0<\/strong>(3:35.62).<\/p>\n<p>Last season, Foster finished second in the event at the NCAA Championships as Florida&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bobby Finke<\/strong> ran him down on the last 100 yards. Later, Foster barely missed the Olympic team in the 400-meter IM with a third-place finish at Olympic Trials, but he rebounded to swim the fastest time in the world in the event later in the summer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jake Foster<\/strong>, Carson&#8217;s older brother, took second in 3:40.42, and Texas&#8217;\u00a0<strong>David Johnston<\/strong> took third in 3:43.61.
