{"id":498120,"date":"2022-02-25T02:48:24","date_gmt":"2022-02-25T09:48:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=498120"},"modified":"2022-02-25T02:52:40","modified_gmt":"2022-02-25T09:52:40","slug":"tokyo-2020-medallists-guy-and-wilby-top-the-podium-on-day-one-of-the-mccullagh-international","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tokyo-2020-medallists-guy-and-wilby-top-the-podium-on-day-one-of-the-mccullagh-international\/","title":{"rendered":"Tokyo 2020 Medallists Guy And Wilby Top The Podium On Day One Of McCullagh International"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>James Guy, Molly Renshaw, Freya Anderson<\/strong> and <strong>James Wilby<\/strong> were among the winners on the first day of the McCullagh International in Bangor, Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>D<a href=\"http:\/\/live-timings.swimireland.ie\/\">ay one finals<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Guy, who won two relay gold medals at Tokyo 2020, was the only swimmer under two minutes in the men\u2019s 200m butterfly.<\/p>\n<p>Guy clocked 1:59.33 ahead of Swansea University\u2019s <strong>Rhys Edwards<\/strong> (2:01.04) and his Bath teammate <strong>Jacob Greenow<\/strong> (2:03.34).<\/p>\n<p>Wilby, who won Olympic silver after swimming the heats of the medley relay, dominate the 100m breaststroke in 1:00.62 ahead of Ireland\u2019s <strong>Uiseann Cooke<\/strong> (1:02.25).<\/p>\n<p>Two-time Olympian Renshaw, was the only swimmer under 68 seconds in the women&#8217;s 100br, touching in 1:07.41.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Freya Anderson<\/strong> won the women&#8217;s 100 free in 55.16 while\u00a0<strong>Jack McMillan<\/strong> was the first Irish gold medallist in the men&#8217;s final.<\/p>\n<p>McMillan (49.52) held off Tokyo gold medallists <strong>Matt Richards<\/strong> (49.96) and <strong>Tom Dean<\/strong> (50.07).<\/p>\n<p>Tokyo 1500 free finalist <strong>Dan Jervis<\/strong> won the men&#8217;s 800 free in 7:49.95 while <strong>Grace Hodgins<\/strong> won the women&#8217;s 1500 in 17:34.85.<\/p>\n<p>City of Glasgow\u2019s <strong>Katie Shanahan<\/strong> took the first gold of the meet topping the podium in the 400m individual medley.<\/p>\n<p>Shanahan touched in 4:46.85 ahead of <strong>Amber Keegan<\/strong> of Sheffield in 4:47.28.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Scott Gibson<\/strong> of Edinburgh University took the honours in the 50m backstroke in 25.45 while <strong>Medi Harris<\/strong> won the women&#8217;s race in 27.79.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>James Guy, Molly Renshaw, Freya Anderson and James Wilby were among the winners on the first day of the McCullagh International in Bangor, Northern Ireland.
