{"id":497691,"date":"2022-02-19T12:11:20","date_gmt":"2022-02-19T19:11:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=497691"},"modified":"2022-02-19T14:48:14","modified_gmt":"2022-02-19T21:48:14","slug":"arno-kamminga-completes-breaststroke-clean-sweep-with-dominant-200m-in-eindhoven","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arno-kamminga-completes-breaststroke-clean-sweep-with-dominant-200m-in-eindhoven\/","title":{"rendered":"Arno Kamminga Completes Breaststroke Clean Sweep In Eindhoven: Eyes &#8216;Epic&#8217; 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Double Olympic silver medallist <strong>Arno Kamminga<\/strong> completed a breaststroke clean sweep at the <strong>Eindhoven Swim Meet\u00a0<\/strong>and looked forward to an &#8220;epic&#8221; 2022 which takes in world and European Championships.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/livetiming.knzb.nl\/ESM2022\/#\">Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arno-kamminga-registers-breaststroke-double-at-eindhoven-meet\/\">Friday report<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Kamminga, who won treble silver at the <strong>2021 European Championships<\/strong> in <strong>Budapest<\/strong>, was more than four seconds clear in the 200m to win in 2:10.02 on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old opened his programme with <strong>58.52<\/strong> in the 100 breaststroke on Thursday which followed a <strong>58.89<\/strong> in the heats.<\/p>\n<p>Kamminga enjoyed a comfortable win in the 50br in 27.21 the following day.<\/p>\n<p>Confirming he would compete at both the World and European Championships, Kamminga told Swimming World:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Yes for sure. Budapest and Rome. ANP ROBIN VAN LONKHUIJSEN\" width=\"332\" height=\"237\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-471304\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo Courtesy: ANP, Robin van Lonkhuizen<\/p><\/div>\n<p>His 100br time ranks<strong> joint ninth<\/strong> in the Netherlands swimmer&#8217;s career, matching his performance at the <strong>Antwerp Diamond Speedo Race<\/strong> in March 2020 and at the <strong>Swim Meet Amsterdam<\/strong> in July 2021, weeks before he won silver in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>Later that day just under two years ago, Kamminga lowered what was then his PB to 58.43 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arno-kamminga-on-insane-breaststroke-double-in-antwerp-training-for-an-under-threat-olympics\/\">as he went third all-time.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is by some way the quickest in the fledgling 2022 rankings, dislodging Tokyo bronze medallist <strong>Nicolo Martinenghi<\/strong> and his 1:00.09 in January in Geneva.<\/p>\n<p>Kamminga became only the second man <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arno-kamminga-unleashes-57-90-in-100br-becomes-second-man-through-58-second-barrier\/\">to go through the 58-second barrier<\/a> when he stopped the clock at 57.90 at the\u00a0<strong>Netherlands Team Time Trials<\/strong> in April last year.<\/p>\n<p>He went on to go inside 58 once more in Tokyo, registering 57.80 in the heats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> &#8211; the only man through the 57 timewarp in 56.88 &#8211; will take to the water with Kamminga at two major meets in less than seven weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The swimming programme at the <strong>World Championships<\/strong> in Budapest runs from 8-25 June before the pair renew acquaintance six weeks and five days later at the <strong>European Championships<\/strong> in Rome from 11-17 August.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty also has the <strong>Commonwealth Games<\/strong> following Budapest with the Tokyo silver and bronze medallists awaiting at the <strong>Foro Italico<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, <strong>Jesse Puts<\/strong> won the men&#8217;s 100 free in 49.61 ahead of <strong>Stan Pijnenburg<\/strong> (49.86) and <strong>Luc Kroon<\/strong> (50.16).<\/p>\n<p>A new era of women&#8217;s freestyle swimming has been ushered in following the retirements of <strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> and <strong>Femke Heemskerk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marrit Steenbergen<\/strong> won the two-length event in 54.73.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Double Olympic silver medallist Arno Kamminga completed a breaststroke clean sweep at the Eindhoven Swim Meet\u00a0and looked forward to an &#8220;epic&#8221; 2022 which takes in world and European Championships.
